Hospital or Home?
My 3 year old son will be having an endoscopy and insertion of the Ph test probe next week. I was told that we would be sent home for the 24 hour testing period. I'm nervous about him keeping the probe in. I also have three four year olds at home and hope they won't mess with it either. When keeping track of your child's symptoms for the test do you need to be sitting with them the entire time? There are 8 other children at home....I'm just not sure how well this will work.

In your situation, if it were possible, I'd want to do it in the hospital. The more your LO is under close observation for the purposes of recording observable symptoms, the more clarity you will get from the test results and the more support you have both for helping to keep the probe in (there are special arm braces used sometimes to keep little ones from pulling probes out) and for dealing with it if it does come out. Is your son's physician/the facility doing the probe familiar with the challenges your situation presents in terms of having him at home?
Check with your
doctor first!
