8 year old Daughter
My daughter was misdiagnosed for years. She was diagnosed at 3 month with reflux after hospitalized and barium swallow done. We were sent to a specialist and changed diagnose to cyclic vomiting syndrome. Years we took her in and everytime will seems like she doesnt want to stay at school, she's better now bring her next time, this is just a side effect of her allergies. So we believed that this was her allergies. The allergies was testing for something else that required endoscope and this is when we found out she suffers from severe reflux with an ulcer in esophagus and damage to the bottom of the stomach. The last visit to the doctors she told us have we thought of surgery? What? i was blind sided and didnt think of anything. Only thing I thought was can we rescope to see if there is any improvement. Question is we have been on meds 7 month prevacid once in the morning, zantac noon and 6, carafate up to 3 times a day one being at bed time and right before going to school. How long should we continue to try meds before we give in. My daughter is affected with stomachache, chest pains, hiccups, spit up 4-5 times a week. But there is improvement its not everyday anymore. My daughter tells us the pain is less frequent but more severe. Reflux is taking her childhood. She now can not play soccer, basketball, baseball. She asked the dr if she could start back up and she told her try dance or swimming so we are signing her up in swimming . Is this what her future will be like? We have also changed her diet. Anything else we should be doing? Surgery isnt a 100 either could she be worse after that? Thank you for any help

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
I can only tell you what I would do with my 8 yr old daughter if I were in your shoes. I would go to a much stronger reflux med before I looked at surgery. Look into Protonix and/or Zegerid. I assume you have a GI doc on board now? I would also look into adding some natural remeddies to help her. Things like probiotics and aloe vera juice. Do you have a good health food store in town or a great nutritionist that you can combine forces with. I would find a new combo for her, give it 60 days and then consider a rescope to see if there are improvements. She has a lot of years of damage to repair. When she had her scope did they test for H Plyori?

Yes we have a GI Dr. H Plyori and biopsy both negative. The Les was to dilated, ulcers and swelling was the problem. I am so mad we took her in and took her in for years and nothing. We changed insurance and few months later diagnosed. Probiotics we are doing. I will look into Aloe vera juice. I will talk to the doctor about the meds. Thank you for your input
