Baby refuses to feed after half feeding..Help! I have 14 week old girl who is 12 weeks premature. Although she has reflux she used to complete her feedings before until 2 to 3 weeks when she began to refuse to take the bottle again after she had stopped mid-feed to be burped. Since then it has become a major problem with her often refusing to take the bottle at all mid-way, even when she is clearly hungry. When you try to get the teat into her mouth she screams like you are torturing her, shove the teat out of her mouth with her tongue and shake her heads violently from side to side. If you keep at it you can sometimes get her to take her feed eventually, as once she starts sucking she seem to forget everything and keep going. But sometimes she gets so worked up with this carry-on that it's impossible to get more than an ounce into her. Either way, you feel like you are force-feeding her and what was a relaxed time has now become very distressing and takes about twice as long as before. Any thoughts anyone?!?

|Is she on medication? I would get her on a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) like Prevacid, Prilosec, or Zegerid ASAP. PPIs are "the gold standard" in treating reflux because they work to stop the acid before it starts. It's important to administer the PPI correctly - on an empty stomach, 1 hour before a feeding - and to make sure she's on a high enough dose. (Babies metabolize the PPI faster than older kids and adults.)
Also, have you investigated the possibility of a milk-soy protein intolerance (MSPI)? MSPI and reflux often go hand in hand, and their symptoms can mimick each other...

going thru the same thinghello, my 6 month old went thru the same thing at age 3 mth, 5 mth, and is now back to it again. The GI told me to just not burp him until the end. It almost feels as he has a measuring cup inside of him that lets him know that its been 3 ounces. When he hits that halfway mark, he refuses to take any more. Sometimes I sing to him about 10 min later, and he might take an extra 1/2 to 1 ounce. But he always drinks it all if he is half asleep. He has been on Zantac for about 2 mths and it seemed to be helping, but not anymore. We also switched to Elecare mixed with Elecare Vanilla around the same time as he started med, and we were so happy it was all ok again.. GI told me to add a few drops of Herseys Strawberry syrup in his bottle, but he hated it even more!! I dont know what to do anymore!! reflux is a tricky disease. when u feel like everything is ok, it comes back to hunt u. I hope GI can help me again! good luck to u
