New to forum...silent refluxing 3 month old BF and constipated
Hi all, I am new to the forum and I have a few questions. But first I'll tell a little bit about us, my DD is 15 weeks old and has been on Zantac since she was one month. I recognized some of her discomfort during and after feedings in the hospital before we were even discharged. My DS had silent reflux and responded really well to Zantac. My LOs both are comfort nursers and are off the growth charts every time I go in. I am truly grateful that this is the case as my heart goes out to families dealing with poor weight gain. That being said.. I am a human pacifier allllll night long. My dd wakes up more times than I can count to nurse. Sometimes she appears to be constipated but my dr (who has already said does not know of silent reflux) says she is not constipated unless her stools her hard. But I watched her as we upped her medicine to 4 ml (2 ml twice a day) she did not poop for days and was spending all her waking and sometimes sleeping hours trying to go. So my question is can a BF baby on Zantac be constipated if it isn't hard? As soon as I dropped the dose her pain cries returned BUT she had a bowel movement. I have considered trying Prevacid but my DS actually had a rare reaction of insomnia. Any ideas are helpful bc my brain isn't really working that well with such little sleep.

Hello- I've had trouble with doctors and consipated babies too. My first went 13 days without a dirty diaper at one stage! I wish I'd known about these two things - although neither are for the squeamish... 1. if you dip a q-tip in vaseline, you can gently stimulate the anal sphincter which is often enough to get them to poo. 2. you can get infant glycerol suppositories on prescription - or at least you can in the UK. You may have to be militant about demanding them though. My second child has horrific reflux (apnoea etc) and is on Neocate formula that makes him horrendously constipated, but just the q-tip in vaseline has always fixed him. Hope these help.

My son who is now 17 months went 8 days between poops regularly... he poops almost daily now, who knows why? Anyway we are doing NO meds, just a supplement called Endefen and it's working.
