Vomitting and Neocate?
Bailey has just been on neoate for 2 days and this morning he was winging and crying for about 1 hour and then he did a little vomit. About 10 minutes later all of a sudden he starts really crying and his face went red. I went to him and said 'baby whats wrong' and he just starts projectile vomitting and vomitting and vomitting. He was so distressed and he was crying tears from his eyes and he kept gagging. It took me some time to settle him down. This was way different compared to the usual vomitting he has always done (because of his reflux). He has never vomitted projectile since being on his medication which he started 4 months ago. I did a quick search on google and a few people have said their baby vomits on Neocate so I just wanted to post hear and see if anyone else's baby has had this. What should I do? Should I discontinue using it or is his body getting used to this? Also I have found him in the last 2 days to seem more 'hungry' since being on Neocate and hes now been night waking to feed. It always seems to be one thing after another, I try a new avenue and then I have a whole lot of new things to start dealing with, so frustrating!!

Further to my post
Further to my post, he has been winging and crying all day. This is not like him, plus hes farting alot more. Hes also appearing more tired than usual. I gave him a half feed of neocate which he took easy (i think hes hungry cause had only fed 2 hours b4) but i added nutricia food thickener to it becuase I read online that some ppl whose baby vomits on neocate add a thickener to stop them vomitting. Since he woke for the day at 3.30am hes had about 5 sleeps and its now only 3pm so its kind of a bit weird. Im so confused about what to be doing. I dont want to be giving him something like neocate if its causing cramps or something? but in having said that hes waking at night to feed but hes not rolling around during the night crying alot which he was doing before the neocate. Seeming he wont eat solids and we are working with a spech pathologist to get him to eat solids i dont know how else to get him not hungry if hes perhaps vomitting neocate because hes taking too much liquid. Im so clueless

Sebastian's parents. Baby stopped eating at 4 months.
Just wanted to check on you and Bailey
How are you both doing? Did the Neocate get better? Our son was on Elecare and it did not work on him. Have you tried Elecare? It seems some babies have to switch from one to the other. Have you tested Bailey for allergies? Also does he have normal bowl movement? Sometimes that affects everything. Ask the speach pathologist to show you the Nuk brush. What happens with the solids? What type of solids did you try?

I hope you both are doing okay. I thought about one more thing. Again, I am not a doctor, I am just giving you maybe things to think about and try if you think it's wise for your child. When my son stopped taking the bottle and was not doing good on Elecare, I made a bottle of sweet potato (organic, stage 1) and mixed it with bottle water. Since your son takes the bottle but not solids, you could try this. It would be calories (not as much as formula) but he may keep it in instead of vomitting. It did not work on my son, he still did not want to take the bottle. The other thing is with the solids, he did not want to take what I cooked and blended, but in the beg would only take jars. Maybe it was more sweet or better blended I don't know. Even today, when he does not accept to take the home cooking I have to use the ready made ones (I get earth's best). Maybe that will help. The other thing we tried for him to start taking solids was the mum's biscuit. The strawberry one is organic and has no soy or dairy. But we made it very very small. We only tried this once he was okay with the stage 1 solid. My cousin's son would not take solids for a few months. But now he is. You will be fine and Bailey will be fine. Just be strong and know this will pass. You are a great mom and you will survive this and look back and feel proud that you did it.

our progress
Hi thanks so much for your ideas and caring enough to respond. I like the idea of the swwet potato and m going to give it a try. n the past I have tried to mix baby cereal into his milk but he knows and wont drink it. He also has never ever liked eating solids through the baby jars. Im so sure whether the flavour is intesnse which makes him shy away. Its so frustrating because he is so interested in fod. If youre eating hes there crawling near you winging wanting to try. You offer and sometimes he tastes and other times he just shys away. Even when he tastes his mouth is so tiny and then he rarely tries again. The speech pathologist has highly recommended only offering hand held foods he can feed himself and stay away from the spoon as he hates the spoon feeding. So she told us to give him anything and everything now and not get worried about varied food groups and to focus on getting him actually interesed in food. So the foods that he will hold onto and attempt to nibble at are toast, rice biscuit, pizza crust, piece of apple and thats really about al hell stick in his mouth more than once. Sometimes he consumes maybe a tsp worth of food but then throws it. Other times he just plays with it. Im not sure if I should be happy for the minimum hes having or whether he should be having alot more. I am hoping that as long as he is interested in food is positive and he make start to enjoy more over the next few months? I haveaso worked hard to get him to take a sippy cup or baby cup for water. He loves the idea of the cup but still cant quite drink from it propery. He hates the sippy cup. He cant be on baby bottles forever so I hope he grows out of this too. Its so hard as a first tme mum as you dont know whats normal and what are things ralated to his reflux etc

I think it's a good idea to not try the spoon since he does not like it. Finger food makes sense. I started with sweet potato and carrots. Does he throw up when he tried the other foods? If not, then that's a good sign. At least he can hold it. Every thing he eats and he holds in is a win for you. Cereal will have a different texture, so he will most likely not take it. Have you tried to see if he likes cold stuff? My son did not like it in the beginning, but I kept taking a wet cloth and put it around his mouth, then he slowly became okay with it. If you see he likes cold stuff to suck on, you could try to freeze sweet potato or apple puree and then put it in one of these http://www.amazon.com/Sassy-Teething-Feeder-Colors-Vary/dp/B00014PLGS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1326169151&sr=8-2. Ask if your therapist thinks is a good idea. Do you have a scale to weight him? Just to keep track? I also think your therapist is right, he needs to first like the idea of food. Play with him, make food fun. I even tried gymboree tapes. They sing and dance. I wonder if carbs makes him feel better and that's why he wants to eat toast and pizza crust. If not, I would tell you to try avacados bc they are high in calories. Does he keep the formula better now or does he still throw up? I will think and write back if I think of anything else. Everything will be okay. It will pass you just need to hang in there for a month or two. I am sure he will make big improvements. In ideal situation you would think about different types of food. Now if you can feed him 10 rice crackers a day, that's 10 times whatever calory the rice cracker has. Ask your doctor about maybe referring you to a pediatric allergist. Again, everything will be okay. Just hang in there.

doctor first!
