Those who give PPI in the evening. What is your schedule please?
I know ideally the PPI has to be given on an empty stomach and meal given 1/2 hr later. So, how do you manage this when you are giving the PPI in the evening/night? Would love to hear about your schedules...it might help me.

I give Kavya small meals very often because that is the best for her reflux. So, having an empty stomach for 2 or 3 hrs is quite impossible. Also, she eats slowly so each meal/snack takes a while and there isn't a lot of gap between eating. Most of her reflux symptoms are at night so she really needs the PPI most at night. I think giving the PPI first thing in the morn won't really be effective for the night (According to MARCI kids the meds are out of the system within 8 hrs or so). I miss Buffer Babies so much (I wish they would get some funding and bring it back). She is allergic to Zegerid so that is not an option. Tried Nexium in the past and it didn't suit her.

Mom to two refluxers. DS 4.5 years, on prevacid since 5 weeks. Trial wean this summer...fail. Intolerant of dairy and soy DD born Nov 2010. Currently on zegerid. Had stomach malrotation & surgery at 9 months. Avoiding dairy/soy with her while BFing.
When I have given prevacid, we do it before dinner time. I've read it needs to be given by 5:30 pm. When my older child took naps, I would give it to him after his afternoon nap as it was pretty guaranteed he had an empty stomach then. Now that he is older I try to limit afternoon snacks and give it to him before dinner time.

oh, I have never heard that you had to give it before 5.30pm. That's interesting. Do you know the source of that info? I wonder why by that time?? I have just heard empty stomach and 1/2 hr before meal. Thanks for letting me know your schedule...it helps.

I will have to search online for it. It was on another message board. Something about what time the proton pumps go off for the night. If you give the medication when the pumps are off (later at night), the medication will just go through the body , not block the acid and not do their job. I am sure someone else can explain it better. I have always given it before dinner time and it has worked well for us.

I remember reading that about administering Prevacid prior to 5:30 p.m. too. I think it was on Marci-Kids somewhere, but without an explanation as to why the time of day was important. We've never given Kylie's Prevacid before 5:30 (always give it at bedtime around 7:30) and works fine...

I think giving it before 5.30 does make a difference. She slept slightly better. Of course if you are using BB it doesn't make any difference but for giving prevacid directly it does seem to make a difference.
