Transition from Prevacid to Zegerid
For those who have transitioned from Prevacid to Zegerid, what has your experience been like? Kavya is currently taking Prevacid with Buffer Babies so the main diff. to Zegerid will be the prilosec. She is already used to the sodium bicarb in BB assuming what is in Zegerid is about the same.

I have heard that prilosec (omeprazole) takes 2 weeks to kick in. Will I just be able to stop the prevacid and switch completely over to the Zegerid or do I have to do one dose of Prevacid and one dose of Zegerid per day and gradually ease it in? Actually not even sure if you can use 2 different PPIs on the same day? Of course I will keep the total dose the same. Please let me know how you transitioned. Thanks.

Just wanted to add...I know all PPIs take a while to be effective but heard that prilosec in particular takes the longest. Also, since she is already taking a PPI (prevacid) will another PPI be immediately effective or is it still going to take a while??

Mom to two refluxers. DS 4.5 years, on prevacid since 5 weeks. Trial wean this summer...fail. Intolerant of dairy and soy DD born Nov 2010. Currently on zegerid. Had stomach malrotation & surgery at 9 months. Avoiding dairy/soy with her while BFing.
We switched from prevacid & zantac to zegerid. We stopped the prevacid and kept one dose of the zantac. The first 2 weeks were bad with gas but she wasn't on a buffer before. I wouldn't give two ppis together.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
The 2 week on boarding is for on boarding to a PPI. You are already using a PPI so there will be no on boarding time. You can stop one and start the next one the next day. Ryan was on Prevacid with BB and switched to Zegerid. I saw no difference at all.
