Axid for infant reflux
Hello. My daughter will be 2 months in a couple of weeks. She was diagnosed with reflux after we took her to a pediatric GI when she had been showing symptoms for a couple of weeks. She is still gaining weight, but it seems that the reflux is bad enough to be on medication. They put her on Prevacid, but she wouldn't take it at ALL. The doctor then switched her to Axid since the minty syrup is easier to take. She has been on that for almost a week. It seemed to help for the first few days, but starting yesterday, she was back to the horrible arching and screaming, and she has intense gas pains. Has anybody used Axid for an extended period of time?

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Many parents have poor results with H2 blockers like Axid. Just my opinion but I would go back to the prevacid. I know it doesnt taste good but she will get use to it after a few days. Set her in your lap, tilt her back to a 45 degree angle and squirt the medicine between her gums and cheek at the back of her mouth. Her tongue will not be able to push the meds out that way. She will get use to it in a few days and will not fight you anymore. Do NOT get it flavored or it will become inactive very quickly. Tough love mom.. You can do this.
