The Hated Car Seat
Does anyone have advice for reflux and the car seat? My 9 week old son diagnosed with reflux HATES the car and his car seat. As soon as we buckle him in the crying starts and he doesn't stop until you take him out. I have tried propping his rear up so he sits a little straighter but it doesn't work. Do some kids just hate the car seat? I wish I could make his ride a little more comfortable. Any advice is appreciated!

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Unfortunately what you are expiriencing is very typical for a refluxer. The carseat... especially the infant carrier types put a lot of pressure on their stomaches and kicks the acid up into their throats. I swore my son was going to shatter the car windows. Aweful!!! Getting the acid level way down in their stomachs is key, first and foremost. The 2nd is to find a rear facing carseat that is suitable for a baby that small that is not a carrier. I switched my son over to the Britax and that helped a lot. But as you see from the post below yours, it doesnt work for everyone. My suggestion is that you try out carseats that your friend have and try out more at Babies R Us and find out that he will tolerate. It can be done. You will then want to keep an baby bjorn front carrier your car to carry him in because when you are shopping and what not, you wont have anywhere to put the baby as he will not be old enough to sit in the cart and you wont have the carseat carrier to stick in the cart.
