Many questions, please help
This is my second son with acid reflux af it seems to be considetably worse then what my first son had. He is now 6 weeks and continues to choke, mostly at nightime. He is on neocate prevacid and zantac. We just put him on prevacid twice a day a couple of weeks ago. Does it still take about a week to work if he was on it once a day for sometime now? Also, will it stop the choking? I keep him upright for a good hour to hour and 1/2 after each feeding but the choking seems to be inevitable. Can someone give me a good recommendation on a product that he can sleep comfortable in at night. Right now he is in a car seat and I think it is increasing pressure on his belly. At night it seems he is not a good burper. Can this be why he is choking? Sorry for all the questions.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Quick answer on the sleep positioner and then i will be back. I love love loved the Fisher Price Soothing Motions Glider. Perfect angle with a flat side to side motion. He slept in it till he was a year old.

HI! First.. welcome and congrats on the birth of your son. So sorry to hear that he is struggling.

Prevacid can take up to 2 weeks to get in their system and do its thing. You should be seeing relief from the pain soon. Since you are not, I would question if it is the right med. Are you giving it on and empty stomach and feeding 30 minutes later. Are you spacing the Prevacid and Zantac 4 hours apart. If yes to both of those and he is still in pain I would consider a med change. I am a big advocate of Zegerid.

Know that reflux meds will not stop the refluxing.. just removes the acid from reflux. Only time can stop the pukes.. well.. and surgery. So if he is not in pain the the Prevacid is doing its job.

Carseats are though on a lot or refluxers. Too much pressure on the belly as you pointed out. I posted earlier that I loved the Soothing Motions Glider. That thing was a life save. I too used the Tucker Sling. I liked it too but I liked the Glider more because I could put him by my head so I could hear him in he got in trouble with his choaking.

Reflux is definately worse at night... No way around that.
