ear problems and solids
I have 2 questions for those of you with experience: 1) My 9-month old has been pulling his ear like crazy and waking up pulling it and crying at night. Took him in and he didn't have an infection yet, but the tympanograph (?) showed lots of fluid in the ear he pulls. He has had 2 ear infections before, 1 double and 1 single.

Just wanted to hear what you all know about if this has any relationship to reflux or not? I am not too worried, but want to be informed. The dr. we saw (not our usual) said it isn't painful, but the way my baby acts I'm not sure I'm buying it... He does act pretty happy in the day, but lying down seems to bother it.

Also been trying more new solids. Baby foods (fruits & veggies & cereal) go well, but I tried yogurt and he burped up (I know that is the norm for a lot of you, but he doesn't normally do that much... usually a silent refluxer). Do you find that any new/ adventurous food does that at first and gets better or is that a sign it's a no-go? Didn't really experience this with my daughter.

Thanks for weighing in!

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
I can weigh in on the ears part. Fluid in ears HURTs when you lay down, it can quickly turn into an infection, it makes it hard for them to hear and messes with their balance. Fluid in ears and silent reflux go hand in hand. Go to www.Marci-kids.com and click on EER to see an animation. I would see an ENT and get their opinion on whether or not tubes are needed. They are the experts not a ped.

I second vigilantmom's post. Tubes were a great decision for us. It was a relief to be able to cross one of our problems off the list of issues, and my daughter felt so much better after she got them.

Also, what kind of milk does your son drink?

Is he sensitive to dairy? Just wondering if you had to cut dairy out of your diet. He may not be ready for yogurt. Lots of reflux babies are sensitive to it.
