Please helpMy son Max is 6 weeks old and has been on Prevacid for just over a week now. It seems to be helping, but I can't guarantee that it is. He was showing signs of silent reflux and continues to show them. Actually it seems like its getting worse. Before we put him on Prevacid, he was on Axid for a few days and that's when he actually started spitting up, before that, he rarely did. Since being on the prevacid, it's gotten a bit worse, up to 3x's a day now. A couple of times a week he will have these screaming/crying fits that last a few hours and it seems like he's in pain but we can't locate where. (These fits have been happening since he was about 2 weeks old) We've changed his formula on multiple occasions with no relief. He's on Gerber Good start now.
The signs he was showing of silent reflux was arching his back, wet burps, congestion and discomfort when eating sometimes. He is still doing all of these things along with an increase in spitting up and hiccups up to 3x's on some days and I'm wondering if there could be something else wrong with him. If it is reflux, we're going everything we can to help, but it doesn't seem to be getting better at all. We, on occasion, give him some Maalox, a quarter of a teaspoon to help with his throat pain. We took him to a GI Dr. about 2 weeks ago who wasn't any help. He basically said Max was colic and that I needed to start drinking. No tests were done to check for reflux. The Dr. just did a normal 'look over' of Max.
Is it possible that there could be something else wrong with him and we just think it's reflux?

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. |Wow. You need a new GI right away. Where do you live? Maybe the moms on the board can help you locate one. What you are describing is classic reflux. You may have food allergies going on too.
Prevacid need 14 days to kick in so hang in there with that. Give it on an empty stomach and feed 30 min later. If you do not see significant improvement in 14 days consider another formula change to something lime neocate. On one of these resent threads I attached DCDs info on formula. If you make a formula change you need to give that 2 weeks. Also go to www.Marci-kids.com and read read read.
