Mom to two refluxers. DS 4.5 years, on prevacid since 5 weeks. Trial wean this summer...fail. Intolerant of dairy and soy DD born Nov 2010. Currently on zegerid. Had stomach malrotation & surgery at 9 months. Avoiding dairy/soy with her while BFing.
Zegerid ?
I think I have my pedi on board with increasing the zegerid dose before my DD has to have surgery. She wanted me to have it compounded. I have been using the 20 mg powder packages. Is the compounded stable or does it have issues with losing effectiveness just like prevacid compound (I have experience with my DS using the prevacid compound the first year of his life).

The pharmacist and I dont' agree on what dose I think the doctor wanted to put her on. So I need to call her back tomorrow. Anyway, just wondering if the compound will even work for us or what the benefit is of using it. Does it taste any better also? Thank you!

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Very strange that he would have you go to a compounded version vs the powder pack. Does he think you are not mixing it right? If I were you I would call Dr. Phillips at the university of MO infant reflux research department. He is the person that created Zegerid. His number is 573.882.8550. He is super nice and very helpful. So is his assistant David.

Thanks! I don't know...I am so confused now. My doctor and I were discussing the marci kids website and their dosing. I thought she was agreeing to up it per their recommendations online. Not sure what the compounded meds would do for us or why she thought that was better. She was talking about making sure there was enough buffer and how the pharmacist could do that. But the powder packs should be fine as long as I give a minimum dose of 7 mg. Ugh!

I gave her more tonight and now she is refusing to feed. I did give her a few bites of solids though so maybe that is causing the issues. It is a constant battle and worry with these kids.

Check with your
doctor first!
