Vaccines + reflux flare up???
Oh my! Soren's been doing fairly well to the point where I feel like the prevacid is finally working consistently and he hasn't been spitting it up. When it works he definitely spits up less and less and when it doesn't he definitely spits up more and shows more of the typical reflux signs (arching then balling up - not wanting to eat etc...) Anyway - he had his 4 month shots today (only two b/c our ped spaces them out so we go every month). He is extremely sensitive to both dairy and soy so I am on a strict dairy free/soy free diet. He has spit up more today than in over a month and the only difference is the vaccines. Does anyone know if there is dairy or soy in vaccines? I can't imagine there would be and now feel stupid for asking.

Don't feel stupid. I don't know the answer, but I know some things you wouldn't expect are cultured on dairy. My advice is to go ask this question on the "Parents of Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers" forums at www.kidswithfoodallergies.com. Or, just "search" for this question in previous posts. I can pretty much guarantee you it's been asked, and answered, there before. The KFA moms are pros when it comes to food sensitivites and hidden anything!

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
I don't know about soy or dairy in a vaccine, but I do know that babies who have a history of pain and/or invasive medical experiences can become particularly sensitive to pain/discomfort and/or medical procedures (including things like vaccines and blood draws). This puts an enormous amount of stress on the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, which can, in turn, trigger a reflux flare up just as any physical or emotional stress can. How was he today?

Sorry - I just saw this! It took a week for things to settle back down! I'm dreading his 6 month vax :(
