Zantac ?My 6 week old daughter just began Zantac. Her doctor initially thought she was just suffering due to my extensive dairy intake, but agreed to let us try Zantac. She has definitely improved, but still cannot sleep on her back, is often irritable and chokes/gags . My question is how long does it take for Zantac to fully kick in? Shes only been on it since Monday (today is Friday). So how long should I try this medicine before I ask for something else or see a specialist? Thanks for any suggestions.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
|It can take 2 weeks for any change to take full affect and you to notice. |
I'd go ahead and make a GI referral now because it can take a while to get in to get seen. The wait is normally long, really long.

Mom to two refluxers. DS 4.5 years, on prevacid since 5 weeks. Trial wean this summer...fail. Intolerant of dairy and soy DD born Nov 2010. Currently on zegerid. Had stomach malrotation & surgery at 9 months. Avoiding dairy/soy with her while BFing.
|I'd give it two weeks like pp said. Will your pediatrician prescribe anything other than Zantac? Ours will. We skipped zantac with DD as my older has reflux and prevacid worked for him. So she said we could start there. She did say some insurances will only let you go onto a PPI after there is a documented fail of zantac for two weeks. It took us 2 months to get into a GI doctor at the pediatric hospital here. ||Check with your
