prevacid solutab vs 24OTC
So my 4 month old has been on 7.5mg prevacid solutab since saturday with no real resutls. After a terrible day yesterday I bumped him up to twice a day. But he seems to be having painful gas now. Is this normal with the solutab? I just ordered some caracream so I can do the Prevacid 24 hour stuff and adjust my own dose. Will this help the gas?

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
Prevacid can be notorious for causing gas in the first week or so...I'd treat with Mylicon drops. If the gas persists too much longer I would consider lactose intolerance as the solutabe are made with lactose...it's rare, but it happens. Karen will be able to advise you on Caracream. I was not able to use the OTC as my son could NOT handle the beads in the capsules...the ones in the solutabs were bad enough for him! Good luck!

Thanks! I can definetly tell a difference in his reflux symptoms since we started the prevacid saturday. Especially since i bumped him up to 15mg yesterday. But the gas is giving him a lot of trouble napping. Which the reflux did too. So I am kinda in a catch 22. If the gas will get better I think it is worth sticking it out. I am giving him Mylicon drops all day but he is still having trouble. I suspect he is lactose intolerant. My other son and husband are. I have ordered the caracream to use with OTC i just hope it doesnt make him worse!

Hi, My 5-month old has been on prevacid solutabs for 11 days and around 7-8 days the gassiness improved. He is only on 7.5 mg. and I have noticed a major positive change. I am trying to figure out if his 5 a.m. restlessness is due to needing 2 doses a day or something else... my dr. is not excited to increase his dose so I'm waiting and trying other things for a few more days :S

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
I saw big improvements going from the solutabs to the caracream. Ryan would get so nauseated after I gave him the solutabs. By the time the 30 minutes passed for me to be able to feed him he was green in the gills. He wasnt that way at all when I switched him over. I am guessing it was the baking soda in the caracream? Settled his stomach.

On the gas issue... yes.. there will be more gas for a couple of weeks. His body is learning to adjust his digestion with less acid It will figure it out quickly. If it doesnt turn quickly or is really bother some, digestive enzymes can help a ton.

I got the caracream last week and used it with the OTC prevacid and tried it out this weekend. He did terrible. Belly was like a brick. he couldnt sleep all day. So I went back to the solutab twice a day and he is doing well. The problem is my prescription is only for 1/2 tablet once a day and i have been giving it twice. So now I am out of meds and the pharmacy wont refill it since it hasnt been 30 days yet. I have left a message with my doctor begging her to up the dosage to twice a day but i dont know if she is gonna go for it. We have an appt with GI at the end of April but I dont know what we are gonna do if she wont up the dosage. Any ideas? I am almost desperate enough to try buying some online from cananda!
