more Prevacid questions
I have a couple more Prevacid questions: We started a couple days ago and my little guy is pretty gassy. Is that typical?

Wondering also how important it is to take it on an empty stomach. We are having trouble doing that in the day because he likes to eat every 2 hours or so (he's 5 months, breastfed) and by the time I wait 2 hours, give it to him and wait another 30 minutes he is starving!!! But I wanted to give it to him at night so that it would still be affecting him for night/ sleeping.

We are still giving him Zantac 2x's a day as well. I am not sure what the best timing for it all is so anyone who can weigh in would be very helpful. We are spacing the Zantac at least 4 hours from the Prevacid like suggested on here though ;)

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Typical to be gassy for about a week. His body is learning how to digest food with out all the acid.

It is very important to give it on an empty stomach, unless you are giving it with Caracream.

Zantac needs to be spaced 2 hours from prevacid. You could to Prevacid first thing in the morning, Zantac at 11, Prevacid late afternoon after his nap and Zantac before bed. You should be able to stop the Zantac after 10 days.

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
ditto all that...only thing to watch for is if the gasssieness doens't subside some kids have trouble with the lactose used to make the solutab...just something to stick in the back of your mind. :)

For most kids 2 hours is enough for an empty stomach. Kids with DGE need more time. Ryan was one of those kids.

Good~ we can't make it all night yet :) Have been giving the Prevacid before supper in hopes of better nights. We are starting to wean off of Zantac since I'm running out so we'll see how just one dose a day of meds goes.

I'm planning to order some Caracream. If I get that I should be able to give his Prevacid anytime right?

If you are going to order it, do it soon. David usually takes the week of spring break off and he is the only one in the office that fills orders. I dont recall what your prevacid dosage is but you might want to consider splitting your dosage between the morning and night. Kids metabolize it pretty fast. Once a day works for some but not most.

diarrhea/ acid rebound??
I think my little guy had some diarrhea this morning. Not sure if it's med related or a bug. Last night was pretty rough :( We are tapering off Zantac since I'm running out. Guess it could be that too. Anyone know anything about acid rebound when you're backing off meds? I wonder about that too.

Not sure about your area but we have about every bug under the sun going around here. Influenza A, B, h1N1, strep, RSV, Croup and stomach flu. Pretty much a petre dish where ever you go. You might be dealing with some of that.
