My 4-yr-old ds is going to be scheduled for a scope. My dd had it done @ 2 yrs but that was 6 yrs ago. Anyone been through it recently to refresh my memory? How do I prepare my son? What questions can I ask of the Dr. afterward? We're testing for EE (eosinophilic esophagitis)- anyone living with EE or know what it's like? My husb. has it, but the dr. just did the scope / dilated the esophagus and that was it, didn't tell him to do anything or give any info about it.

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
We were told no food after midnight the night prior. We arrived at the surgery center and changed into a gown and had a full "inspection" by the nursing staff.

Jedd had to have an I.V. but that was to run ABX due to his (at the time) recent open heart surgery. This was required by the cardiology team when he went under.

They give them sleepy gas until they are really drowsy and then do the scope. They should take 3 biospes while they are there and at least 3pictures.

They will send away the for slides to be done to DX the EE or not.

they can sometimes see damage with the naked eye but not always. So, if they say right away we see nothing wrong, no EE, that's not necessarily what the slides/biopses will show.

We stayed in the PACU extra long as per cardiology request. You should be able to go home shortly after as long as some fluids are being tolerated.

If you have a FB page I can put you in touch with TONS of EE families. They are quite the organized bunch of folks on there!!!! I literally know lots and lots of them!!!
