switching from prevacid solutabs to prilosec suspension
The GI finally called me back and this is what she is prescribing. I tried to talk to her about the suspension being unstable and asked about buffer babies but she was dismissive. Has anyone switched and if so am I in for 2 weeks of screaming and pain again :( I'm really afraid to make this switch :(

I think i'm going to just skip this and order the buffer babies - I've been upset all morning in anticipation of the switch and what it will do to him plus I can't get mylanta so we'll basically be stuck and I can't imagine putting him back in that much pain all for something I feel fairly certain will not work.

I would only use the Prilosec in suspension for as a last resort if you can't get Caracream and do it yourself. And that's coming from someone who's child HAD to use Prilosec in a suspended form. He was tube fed and that was ALL that would fit through the tube.

It has to be made just right and by a really good pharmacy. We were lucky, and they pharmacy we used was awesome.

I woudl order the buffer babies and do it yourself like you stated.

I'm just waiting on the CaraCream to show up - I ordered last week and am cautiously optimistic. After reading the article on Marci-Kids about how unstable the pharmacy suspensions are I knew there was no way I was going down that road.

This is exactly our situation right now. My 7mo. old has been on Prevacid and we have seen no improvement in 3 weeks so the doc is switching him to Prilosec suspension. I didn't think anything of it but now I'm wondering what the concern is over Prilosec...what are some side effects that make is a "last resort" and why is using something like buffer babies a good idea? Thanks for any thoughts!
