Switching from alimentum to Neocate
We are about to make a switch from Alimentum to Neocate for our 4 month old son, who we believe has a dairy protein allergy. He has been OK on the Alimentum but not great, and his sleeping continues to get interrupted by fits of discomfort and pain (most likely intestinal?). Our one hesitation is that he has had a cold the past few days, with lots of congestion, coughing, etc. Does anyone have a point-of-view as to whether to wait another couple of days before making the switch to Neocate in case he has a hard time with the switch since he is sick and therefore his body is weaker...or would making the switch potentially actually help his situation in the short term? We are also hesitant to switch because of the fact that it will likely make him more gassy and constipated, which he already is somewhat due to the thickener that he is on, Simply Thick.

Derek,10/29/02 GERD,Can't have any legumes(soy, being the worse), allergic to PN/Tree Nuts, struggled to gain weight for years, my "picky" eater,Takes Zegerid. Johnny, 12/05/99 GERD, managed by diet, allergic to cashews/pistachios.
Personally I would start out by mixing half and half to transition him to the Neocate to get him to like it and over a few days slowly mix more to get to all Neocate. Did you get a sample from the doc to try? If he doesn't get better on just Neocate are they going to try reflux meds, or is he already on them?

Neocate can cause constipation, so you may end up needing to add some mirilax, check with doc on that.
Check with your
doctor first!
