Hard time feeding 15 month old BabyHi,
I have a 15 month old baby who was on reflux med (prevacid) till she was about 11 months old. She has not been on meds for about 4 months now. She has been discharged from seeing her GI because her weight gain is great. She has always been between 60 to 75 percentile. But I have always had issues feeding my daughter while she was on med and off med, there would be some days where she would be okay but this past few months, we need to fully distract my daughter when feeding her meals, its very difficult. As for feeding her milk (we give her 1 bottle of soya formula in the morning & 2 bottle of homo milk) she would drink maybe about 2oz at one time and stop and push the bottle away, we need to be after her all the time to get her to drink couple more oz. It would take about an hour to have her finish the 6oz of bottle. I don't know if this has to do with reflux, if she's in pain, teething, or just her habits, food aversion. She was seen by an O/T for few months who also discharged her because she was gaining weight and didn't have swallowing problems. My daughter is a very late teether, is getting her 4 tooth at 15 months so feeding her table food is very difficult, so we make sure the food is grind ed and here and there we give her few bites of what we eat, which she manages without a problem, but the difficulty is getting her to eat after that 2nd or 3rd bite. I am very worried about my daughter and that this issue would lead to more serious issues in the future. My daughter throws up here and there maybe because of us trying thard to feed her or maybe she doesn't like the food. She gets cold very often and now we tend to feed her milk mostly in her sleep. Please your comments and suggestions would be really helpful. I want my daughter to have healthy eating habits and not get cold/ear infection often. In the past, we did many blood, urine work on her, she even had a Barium Ultrasound which revealed she didn’t have severe reflux. My daughter was spitting up quite a bit till she was about 7-8 months and then it stopped. No allergy test has been done yet.

Debbie, Mom to:
Derek,10/29/02 GERD,Can't have any legumes(soy, being the worse), allergic to PN/Tree Nuts, struggled to gain weight for years, my "picky" eater,Takes Zegerid. Johnny, 12/05/99 GERD, managed by diet, allergic to cashews/pistachios.
|Personally I would put her back on the Prevacid and pronto. Did the GI have her on it once or twice a day? Because if it was only once then that could be why she still was never completely symptom free. Kids need twice a day for coverage. They metabolize it faster than adults.
Just because the test showed no severe reflux doesn't mean it doesn't bother her. You have to be firm with the GI dept. and call and say she is having symptoms. Keep pushing.|

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
|I agree with Debbie. I would put her back on the Prevacid right away. She likely was not ready to come off plus know that teething aggrevates reflux a lot! Food adversions are really tough to over come and vertually impossible if there is pain involved with it. ||Check with your
