8yr old Reflux back after 9 months???
Hi, my 8yr old has been off Prilosec for 8mths now, and over the last 3 weeks has been suffering with bad stomach pain and reflux. He did have a fever and some kinds of virus, but why would the reflux take 9 mths to come back? He was on a lot of allergy meds all spring-fall, could the antihistamines been masking the stomach pain? I put him back on the Prilosec twice daily, 20mg. It is helping, he ate a lot this morning, but still has off and on bad stomach pain, so I've been giving him Maalox. I thought we were done with this!

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Have you tried putting him back on the antihistamines instead? My friend's daughter was diagnosed with "reflux" by her GI. It didn't seem right to my friend given her age. She took her to an allergist instead. He put her on Flonase and Zyrtec. "Reflux" and stomach pains disappeared in a week. The allergist said the stomach pains and reflux symptoms were from all the drainage. She is on the antihistamines year round now and her appetite is great.

Karen, I lost your e-mail, deleted it by mistake! Thanks so much for answering! Can you tell me how old your friends child was? I'm 41, and I've been taking zyrtec-D year round for many years, if I don't I get awful nausea from post-nasal drip. An ENT Doc. finally helped me out, but I never thought my son would have the same problem!

Her daughter is 8 as well. They tried Pepcid, Prevacid, Zantac. Nothing was working. She missed a ton of days of school and had a really hard time sleeping. Her stomach always hurts and she was mopey. The Zyrtec and Flonase took care of all of it. (She had already had her tonsils and adenoids out). Its certainly worth a try. I really hope this works for him. I am sure you feel a lot better about Zyrtec than PPIs. Now keep in mind she did not have a history of reflux as a child so I dont want to get you hopes up too high.
