?s on 3 month old refluxer
Hi! I have a 3 month old baby girl with reflux. My son also had reflux as a baby...he actually is 3.5 years and still suffers from reflux and is on prevacid. Anyway, I am unfortunately familiar with some aspects of reflux. But it has been all new challenges with my new baby. She has been on prevacid since 4 weeks old. Around 2 months old, she started to refuse to breastfeed. She started to develop a real feeding aversion. To BFing or bottle (she is mostly BF though). She would either latch on and off and just scream or scream when I even sat down in the chair to feed her. I thought it was all pain related and she needed more prevacid. I've been to the pediatrician for the last 3 weeks in a row, to the lactation clinic. But I am resorting to getting her 1/2 asleep to nurse or "dream feeding" her. I know this is not normal and developing a bad habit. She is still gaining weight, so her doctor doesn't seem concerned. Yesterday I had to really insist that she go see a GI doctor. Pediatrician insisted she is maxed out on her meds. She is taking Prevacid 7.5 mg in Am (1/2 solutab) and Zantac 1.2 mL in PM. She is nearly 13 pounds. I did finally get her to change to Prevacid 5 mg in am and 5 mg in PM. Zantac at night til the increase in prevacid takes effect. What do you think of her med doses? can she go up to this or even 1/2 tab in am and pm? I hate seeing her in pain and refusing to eat. She BF for 2 months with out issues so this heartbreaking. My DS was a comfort nurser so this refusing is hard to take. I am getting so stressed out and frustrated! Pedi also wants us to go see a pediatric OT to check out the feedings. By the way, DS is allergic to dairy/soy so I have eliminated those from my diet from day one. Thanks in advance!!

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Uhg.. Sorry that you are dealing with this a 2nd time around. The solutabs do have lactose in them so if your baby is super sensitive perhaps they are bothering her?? Milk and soy are hidden in everything. Read every single label. Dream feeding is really hard. Been there. The sooner you can figure out the right med and dosage the better. Consider trying a different PPI like zedrid, prilosec or Nexium.

Thanks for the help. I always wondered about the lactose in the solutabs. More questions for the GI doctor when we are able to see him. My pedi isn't willing to change medications. Thanks!
