New diagnosis: dysphagia - need help...
We conducted a modified barium swallow study on Audrey (6 months) and she has a mild dysphagia with probable aspiration on ultra-thin liquids. This is pretty clear now that we are starting solids. She takes a long time to eat, she chokes with the oatmeal and when drinking from a cup (even when the milk is thickened), she has raspy sounds after drinking, she just looks uncomfortable when she is eating in general. I am trying to sort through the information out there about dysphagia and is does not look like there is one particular solution. We have been to several feeding therapy appointments, but have not seen any improvement (with swallowing, daily intake, making her more comfortable, etc.). Has anyone tried anything that worked for their little one? I am desperate to help Audrey and make her more comfortable. It is so hard to watch her get hungry, start eating, and then shut down because of the discomfort. Any ideas, experiences and help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Have they tried any reflux meds? Have you tried eliminating dairy or soy?

Hi, I was re-reading your post. I see from previous posts, you've already tried reflux meds. Are they considering doing an endoscopy. My younger son turned out to have Eosinophilic Esophagitis. With this condition dysphagia is usually there, and reflux meds don't help. He uses asthma meds to suppress the eosinophils in his esophagus that cause the reflux and stomach pain. http://www.medicinenet.com/eosinophilic_esophagitis/page2.htm Try copying and pasting this link for info. on it.

Thanks for your post. She did have an endoscopy and our GI Specialist just said that it showed mild inflamation.
