Is Zegerid same as PPI+caracream??
Doing research on different PPI meds and found the following post on Infantreflux.org. Does anyone know if this is accurrate?? Going to Dr. on Thurs. and want to be knowledgeable about meds before I go... caracrem is the original zegerid, if that makes sense. Marci-kids developed caracream- a way of "compounding your own PPI meds at home" and you can use it with either prilosec or prevacid CAPSULES (not the pill form). They send you two bottles- one called therasol and one called caracream. You break open a certain number of capsules into the therasol bottle, put in the fridge for 10 minutes, then add the caracream flavouring bottle. That makes the stable suspension in CaraCream. A few years ago, marci-kids sold the patent for CaraCream to a company called Santaurus- they used the knowledge to make zegerid. Zegerid is prilosec + buffer. It makes a stable prilosec suspension and tastes like peach mint. I've never used it as you can't get it in Canada.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Yes. Reflux Solutions Lab, aka MARCI-Kids were the creators of Zegrid. Caracream mixed with Prilosec. They sold the rights but kept the rights caracream. I had Ryan on Caracream mixed with Prevacid for a year and did it exactly as you described above. Their 2nd generation keeps the liquid prevacid seperate from the buffer until right before administration.

When Zegrid went over the counter they had me switch to Caracream Z. You mix it with Zegrid vs Prevacid. It was much cheaper because the Zegrid does not have to be disolved in Therasol (its powdered capsules vs endocrentic coated ball of medicine) and it already has some buffer in it so you dont need as much of that. You open the capsules, mix it with water and add the flavored caracream. It definately does not taste like peach mint though. More like salty carmel.

And FYI... Caracream is basically flavored baking soda. Call Jeff or David at Reflux Solutions lab. They can tell you all about it. www.refluxsolutions.com. Their email address and phone number are there. Their www.marci-kids.com site it currently down for upgrades.
