side effects of prevacid solutabs??
Hello, My daughter (12 wks old) has been on Prevacid solutabs for about 4 weeks. During that time she has become a complete insomniac during the day. She can't nap AT ALL! She is so exhausted that she can barely eat... Has anyone else expereinced this with the solutabs??? Also, wondering if anyone has noticed appetite suppression since taking solutabs??? BTW... looking into caracream after a recommendation from this website... am excited about it...but can't quit her Prevacid in the mean time...

Mommy to Stephen Michael, 4 months on Dec. 27th
Diagnosed with GERD, currently on Zantac, Miralax, Gripe Water, and Neocate with Rice Cereal
side effect
A weird side effect for us was his urine output, smell, and color changing drastically. We ruled out everything else that could have been causing it. But it decreased his urine output, changed the color, and made it smell terribly! As soon as we took him off of it, it went back to normal within a few days.

Does she have issues with milk? The solutabs have milk in them. Decreased appetite is a side effect of all PPIs, from what I've read. There is less acid in the stomach so digestion takes longer (i.e. they stay full longer).

She does not have issues with milk....but staying full longer sure would tell me why she only eats 2 ounces at a feeding. We had Upper GI today and were told everything looks normal...except the refluxing of course. I'm glad my child seems healthy but it's so frustrating to spin your wheels and never get anywhere.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Ryan did not expirience the insomnia but every child is different. There was a mom on the board about a year ago that said the same thing. She ultimately ended up on Nexium. I am not a big fan of the Solutabs. They have the right idea but the formula must be off. I have heard too many kids having issues with it. As far as the decreased appetite... that will go away with time. Her little body is going through a lot of changes right now learning to deal with decreased acid. Her body will figure it out though. Hang in there.

We actually have had better sleep since starting the Solutabs, although the past few nights, teething seems to have kicked in and we've had some fitful sleep. But I guess we are in a minority, where we haven't had any side effects. I haven't noticed appetite decrease or increase - more that our baby has been able to eat without discomfort and doesn't experience discomfort with spitting up anymore. She still spits up plenty and is not the greatest at weight gain compared to her non-reflux peers, but I was just grateful to have her nursing again.

natural remedy that works better than antacids
Hello all I want to say is my child has been diagnosed just last year he is 9 years old now but has suffered since he was born, the pediatrician offered antacids omeprazole then ranitide which I felt one only helped by 2% and another agrevated condition, since then my child being in pain crying feeling sick all time losing sleep and time of school. Well I heard about an Organic apple cider vinegar with mother it helps the digestive system and more, the mother is the enzymes and nutrients the body needs in the vinegar, I researched this for months and my son has been taking it for two months now and wow what a difference, I just want to say look it up do your own research the benefits, but please at least try it after research and I hope this helps some of you mums at least, as life is hard enough and kids need to enjoy life.
