Neocate Jr making it worse? Neocate dilution question
We have gradually been giving Kavya Neocate Jr Unflavored (we are at the moment 3/4 neocate Jr, 1/4 Nutramigen). However, instead of seeing an improvement, things were status quo for a while but last night it was significantly worse. She was waking up every hour after midnight and was uncomfortable even in my arms. I could hear the congested reflux sound and she was squirming a bit. She is a little constipated so that could be the issue (anyone experience constipation with Neocate Jr ?). However, she has been constipated in the past and not felt so uncomfortable. I don't think it is teething though she is due for her 2 year molars (she is 23 months now). At least I don't see the molars yet. So, I am thinking it is something in the Neocate that is bothering her.

Though she is 23 months old, she was just on the 20 cal dilution with the Nutramigen. I know with the Neocate they recommend a 30 cal dilution. I have been diluting to about 25. Anyone experience a difference in symptoms based on the dilution? I am just wondering if she can't handle the 25 cal dilution. I am planning to try the 20cal with the Neocate to see if that is any better.

neocate dilution
Haven't been on in a few days and i saw your post. We have been on neocate jr for five years. Isabella has severe constipation issues but neocate wasn't the main culprit it was her delayed emptying causing thebackup. I can suggest that mixing neocate with warmer water allows the formula to dissolve better. I have done this for five years and they just now put a label on the cans that say to do this. If you are trying with cold water sometimes small clumps may sit in her belly and she will work harder. As for the constipation I dont know if miralax is an option but we have bella on 3 tblsp/day obviously your dr would give you the dose for her but some use miralax on an inconsistent basis and it can take 2-4 days for a bm. I also give bella unsweetned green tea because miralax pulls the moisture from the guts to produce a bm so you want to make sure she is well hydrated. hope this helps!

Kavyamom, reading Bellysmom's post, I wonder - have you ever explored delayed gastric emptying as a possible source of Kavya's issues? I know she does not vomit. I just wonder if motility issues could be a contributing factor and if your GI has ever mentioned that. I know you've been through a lot of different testing.

I had seen some other posts that you were in need of neocate jr. I have about 15 cases unflavored. Will sell for 40/case plus shipping

I read on the Neocate website that Neocate Jr. contains like 150% of the daily vitamins/minerals a baby needs. I guess this extra concentration is probably responsible for the constipation issues? Kylie is on Neocate Infant right now and I'm not sure how it compares but she only has constipation issues with certain solid foods.

Bellysmom, I don't think I need the Jr. yet. Kylie will turn 1 yr. old in February. We're hoping by then she'll have outgrown her milk allergy or will at least be able to tolerate regular hypoallergenic formula or some other milk option. I will definitely keep you in mind though. It may be prudent for me to stock up on some cheap Jr. now in case we do need it then.

I do mix Neocate with warm water (actually have been mixing all formula even prior to that in warm water...just found it mixed better). We haven't done any testing for DGE. When she was on Nutramigen, a little prune juice and coconut water kept her very regular. I am pretty sure the combination of oatmeal and Neocate is causing the constipation issues but I am still not able to get her to drink the neocate on its own. I increased the prune juice and trying to get her to drink more water and that has helped a little with the constipation (yes, I have tried Miralax sometimes but don't feel comfortable using it every day). However, still not seeing much improvement with sleep on Neocate.

Saw u were using coconut water have u tried to use that with the neocate. Dont know how that would work but worth a try. Also maybe subing a liitle rice in place of oatmeal like a slow transition from oatmeal to to rice. Im scratching my head for you. Also have u looked into using coconut milk b/c she likes the water with duocal to boost it. Have you tried the neocate-its nasty but it is all bella has known but now we r on a protest because she is on a green tea and juice kick. Im not a big fan but duocal mixes well in stage 2 gerber fruits and applesauce and the prunes and apricots may help with the poopies.
