How long for erythromycin to take effect?
Hi, Our doc switched my 7 wk. reflux and colic son from prevacid and zantac to erythromycin and zantac. He has been on the zantac for 4 weeks and I havent noticed an improvement. We started the erythromycin yesterday. Wondering how long I need to give it? I hate giving my infant meds that aren't helping his discomfort. ANyone have expperience with this antibiotic? Thank you!

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site:
IF you are going to do a combo of meds than Prevacid and Erythromycin would be a better combo. Prevacid is a stronger GERD med and the EES (erythromycin) is a motility agen to move food through the system faster.

When Jedd was little, about 10 weeks or so old, we used EES to help him out and his little system just couldn't take it, it gave him explosive diapers...LOL But, we did end up using Reglan, another motiltiy med, later and he responded well but had side affects.

We came off that med and moved back to EES with good success. It should be given in low doses about 30 mins prior to each meal.

With my now 6 yr old we have had success with ees. We did the zantac, reglan and others we have been on 30mg prevacid and 2.0 ml ees 3 times a day. i did notice it was better tolerated with a small amount of food in ur case formula breast milk etc. U can actually give a syringe of formula then give the dose of ees

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
Once we had to stop Reglan we tried EES...we did the Prevacid EES combo...unfortunately it didn't work for Z. The doc told us that if no results in one week that it wasn't going to improve...
