My son Levi is 13 weeks old. We figured out he has reflux @ 2 weeks. We have tried 4 different formuls (Currently Neocate) and he is taking Pepcid, Prevacid, Mylanta, Grip Water
nutragien AA (amino acid)
i know a mom who may have to put her son on Enfamil Nutramigen AA. formula due to mspi & reflux. Anyone ever tried it? She has turned to me for advice and I've only had experince with neocate (and a friend with a daughter on elecare)

That's an article on commonly used formulas. It has a section on which formulas are better suited for a child with a milk allergy.

That is section 2 about specialized formulas.

Every child will react differently to each formula, that's what is soo hard about giving advice on formulas.

Some kids will do fine on the Nutram. While others will need something much more free of milk like Elecare in order to be OK.

The thing about Elecare is it's the ONLY formula made in it's own factory so there is just about a zero chance of cross contamination occurring. The other formulas are made on the same lines at the regular formulas after the lines have been cleaned. But, there are cracks and crevices for powder to get "stuck" in.

From what I've read, the best formulas to use, outside of Elecare are: Alimentum, Nutramigen and Pregestimil.

But again, Alimentum worked for Jedd but it might not work for another child. Jedd was also on it because it was more broken down and his system could digest is faster due to DGE not because of a MSPI.

HTH :-)

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
We did it for about 2 weeks, but the puking got worse...(I can't blame that on the formula..I just think Z was a complete mess at that point)...elecare was the lifesaver for us... Nutramagin AA actually smelled better than the nasty rotten potato stench of infant elecare... Even elecare didn't stop any puking, but it was CLEAR that he was more comfortable on it...and he was able to put on a little weight...

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Great articles on formula Jessica!! I will pass these on.

^^ FWIW I know the lady who writes that online magazine and she is amazing!!! She really is!!!! I wrote an article for her on Jedd's hypospadias repair, so I'm officially "published" now. :-) She's on my FB friends and I've known her for about 3.5 years via the internet, she knows her stuff. It's amazing.

well she is a little worried becuase its her pediatrician who is doing all the g.i. stuff. She asked for a referal to a g.i. doctor and he told her it was "unnessicary" because he can "handle it" She has her son on Nutramigen for another 2 weeks and if he doesnt get better, then he is going on Nutramigen AA. I had seriously never heard of nutram AA untill she told me about it. I know every kid is different when it comes to treating conditions like mspi & gerd but i think she was just looking for advice from another mom who has tried it. I have given her this website but she doesnt want to join she just checks in to look at the posts.

I'm always wary of a pedi who wants to handle GI issues...ours will refill a prescription for us, but she defers to the GI for all of Z's issues! Anyway...I hope she has good luck with the NutramAA
Check with your
doctor first!
