Sodium Bicarbonate in Zegerid vs Buffer Babies
We are trying to find out which has more sodium bicarbonate? Zegerid with Caracream at 3ml/mg or Buffer Babies (Nexium)? I only found one person saying the Zegerid had less but I'd like some more input. We went to Caracream Max from Caracream Zegerid after a lot of gas issues. His reflux is out of control (calcium bicarbonate does not seem to work for him) and we think he may be allergic to one of the inactive ingredients in the Prilosec OTC tablet. Prevacid gave him insomnia so Zegerid and Nexium are all we have left from my understanding (the others cannot be used with these systems). Whatever has the lowest sodium bicarbonate is going to have to be our choice because our doctor will not rx Nexium packets above 10mg. Thanks in advance!

I am sorry I don't know the answer to your question but I am also curious! We will be starting buffer babies sometime this week and I might have a better understanding of what the Sodium Bicarbonate will do to his stomach!

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
I would send an email to David or Dr. Phillip. They can tell you for sure. I can tell you that Ryan had a lot of gas for the the first week as his body got use to the meds and the decreased acid in his stomach. I stuck with it though because it was his last hope to prevent a feeding tube. After a week, no more gas. In the mean time I used GasX and probiotics. Now, that said... Ryan is not super sensitive to inactive ingredients so it may be a totally different deal for you.

vigilantmom: I have tried. My fiance tried. Other online acquaintances have tried and no emails back regarding it. We stuck out the 2 weeks, then he just got stiff as a board screaming even with 3 droppers of gas drops every bottle. The inactive ingredients in the gas drops we had been using didn't help though. I wrote a post about my experience with the CCM for Nexium, I am still scared to order BB. The pedi just agreed to rx Nexium packets in 20mg size and up to 40mg after a week if no improvement (well we started him on the capsules of 40mg as he was on 45mg Prilosec just to get started). The Nexium has made a HUGE improvement in ONE day. I am AMAZED and thrilled. But I would much rather have pedi rx capsules like he did zegerid so I can use a buffer for immediate release.
