Elecare Neocate and DHA??
My son has now been switched to Alimentum due to his 6 choking episodes on Neocate. He does not choke on any other formulas but does have blood in his stool from the Nutramigen so far.... Do you think the choking is from the DHA (fat protein)in the Neocate? I know it comes without but I don't want to go through those moments again. Does elecare have DHA in it? Does anyone know the difference between these two formulas? Thanks

i called both neocate and elecare. the gentleman that i spoke with at neocate was wonderful. sent me a sample of the neocate jr. unflavored and the chocolate and some flavored straws. looking at the container and no dha. i asked about the elecare and the elecare unflavored did come without dha. they will not send samples though. this stuff is $$$. neocate offers you 10% off reorders when you sign up with them. know lots of folks order off amazon and ebay. kinda worried if it has been stored properly when you don't know who you are buying it from. we went out of town this weekend and i but the caracream on hold. it was a fight and she was refusing the syringe. i was so STRESSED out, she was so stressed out, i stopped friday afternoon and went back to the compounded prilosec. was hoping the caracream was going to be the magic bullet, ..... i am not going to give up on it just yet. think i am going to start on unflavored neocate tomorrow. it is like diving off a cliff.

Do you me you are diving off a cliff or do you feel like jumping? ha!! I feel like jumping!!! I am so sad!! How can my son choke on the one formula that is our last option??? I will call elecare and neocate today! I will ask about the DHA thing! Thanks! I am in the process of going back to breastfeeding so I have to restart my breastmilk! I now have to go back to the elimination diet also! Trying to restart breastfeeding has been ok. It is going to take awhile but everything feels like a lifetime right now!! How long have you been on the caracream? David(MACRI-KIDS) told me that it could take 4-10 days to see progress. He also said that sometimes it does not work at all. Email him and tell him what is going on. He will work with you! I am still waiting for my Buffer Babies that I over night rushed last Friday! Feels like a lifetime! How are you getting through your days? I have to go back to work in 3 weeks and its just part time. I hope my parents will be ok with Cole! They are in their 60's and I dont want to wear out my welcome! Thanks for responding! *Meredith*

diving and not knowing if there is water or rocks below! hope breastfeeding works out. i pumped every three hours for three weeks and froze it and reintroduced it at seven months, little by little in her bottles. i was a zombie and was so glad to take that breast pump back! wish it hadn't been so stressful and it could have worked for us. i think i pumped enough for five children in those three weeks. i put the caracream on hold for just alittle while. went to one of adeline's doctors today to get her right foot checked out. she has been turning it in and stepping really funny. she is not walking by herself yet and he told me she will probably require surgery on her leg near hip area in the future to get it straightened out. i just went downstairs by myself and had a good cry. that is not what i wanted to hear today! my mother keeps telling me one day at a time. so glad your parents can help you! i have actually found some wonderful students on craigslist. there is also a website called care.com and lots of folks on there listed for special needs, etc and don't mind working with children with issues. you might want to take a peak and see if you can find some part time assistance. it is always hard bringing in a new person, but we have had good luck. hang in there! lindy

Both products come with and without DHA. The Elecare I can only ever find at the pharmacies comes without DHA. I would recommend trying Elecare without the DHA as it has been a very very good formula for my son. We stopped using DHA due to concerns of where it comes from when used in infant formula, not because of another issue. DHA can also cause digestion issues in some infants which I believe to be relevant with reflux/mspi babies.

My son Levi is 13 weeks old. We figured out he has reflux @ 2 weeks. We have tried 4 different formuls (Currently Neocate) and he is taking Pepcid, Prevacid, Mylanta, Grip Water
i have notices that my son does choke on his neocate. He used to be on Alimentum ready to feed because it was soo thick. Now im having issues with Levi choking on the neocate because it is soo thin. I have talked to the g.i. doctor and im trying this week to feed him 2 tablespoons of brown rice before he eats his bottle (becuase the brown rice wont mix with the neocate) But if he still chokes, they are going to percribe a thickening agent like thick-it. Hope that helps!!! Oh and my neocate does say it has dha on it.
