Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Hi! I saw on an earlier post that the Solutabs are costing you about $100 a month and you were trying to get a hold of David at Marci-kids. Thought maybe I would help you out so you are not waiting for a return call. Go to their order site, www.refluxsolutions.com. Pick if you want Buffer Babies (that is mixed with Prevacid) Caracream Z (that is mixed with Zegrid) or CaraCream Max which is calcium based vs sodium bicarbonate base (baking soda). I have used their old caracram, buffer babies and caracream Z. They all work great and in the same way. I settled on the Caracream Z as it is the easiest, and least expensive route. You mix it with water and OTC Zegrid, which if you do your research it is the one PPI that has been FDA tested and approved for infants. You can call me if you want to talk about it more. I will send you my phone number. Once you decide which way you want to go, click on Order, download the form, fill it out and mail it in with your check. Make sure you check the box that says Introductory Kit and the box for 10 refills and the delivery method. Your introductory kit will come with bottle, funnel, syringes and cap, so you dont need to order anything else.

Karen, just got the caracream z. mixed it, my goodness that is alot of capsules! anyway, put it in the syringe and gave to adeline. then i tasted it. oh boy, salty. we are used to the kinda sweet taste of the compounded prilosec. i quickly gave her some pureed pears as a chaser. any recommendations or tricks on giving this? well ..... hiding it? she doesn't drink all of her bottles and don't want to waste the dose or her not get the full amount. thanks.

okay just read the back page of the directions, do not give with fruit. jeez! gave her the second dose with pears. i messed up! REALLY need to hear how you all are giving this. it is too strong to give straight from the syringe, and don't want to turn her off by putting it in her bottle. help!

Hi! Glad you got the kit. A little pear as a chaser is totally OK. No worries. Ryan is a fruit-aholic and it still works great for him. The no fruit thing is because of the acidity level of fruit. Pureed pears are OK.

Ok, as far as the taste... I think it taste gross too but Ryan doesnt. I swear they can get use to anything. The kid licks the cap and the cup and use to pull at the fridge door yelling for it when he needed it. He administers it to himself now. : ) I wouldnt put it in her bottle. Just squirt it between her cheek and gum so she cant spit it out. Chase it with a drink or a spoon of pears or yogurt if needed. In a couple of days she wont mind the taste any more. Think of the kids that have to get use to Alimentum. I would starve to death before I drank that nasty stuff but kids drink it every day. Part of the problem of your old prilosec was the sweetner they put in it. It actually made your compound unstable.

As far as the number of capsules, you are making a big batch. I am assuming you are using 14 capsules? That is what I use too and my batch lasts 3 weeks. I was able to cut his dose down from 30 mg (equivilant) a day to 15mg once I started using Caracream. It was that much more effective! I hope you find the same thing for Adeline. We are now down to 12 mg. We are getting there!!

I did my research back when I was severely stressed and sleep-deprived...but I thought Prevacid is the only PPI FDA approved for infants? I seem to remember Zegerid is only approved in children 2 yrs. and older. Not that I wouldn't use Zegerid if Prevacid wasn't working for Kylie - I know the process for getting drugs approved in babies is incredibly difficult.

I was sleep deprived and strung out at the time too but I am pretty sure it was the other way around. Not that it matters... Prilosec, which is what Zegrid is made with, and prevacid are used interchangably by docs. Its amazing we can remember anything from those days. Hee Hee... and funnier that I can sort of laugh about it now. Yikes those were bad bad times. I feel for all of you that are on the front end of this journey. Its rough. After I finally got Ryan figured out I vowed I would never ever let another Mom go through what I did... if I could help it. What a nightmare. I am still pretty mad at my GI and my old ped. My poor kid went through hell. If I had not stumbled upon the MARCI Kids site he would have been on a feeding tube and who knows what else.

Hi vigilantmom! Thanks for your help! We have had a very diificult few days! Started the neocate and my son choked in the middle of the night! WHY?? So the ped wanted me to thicken his feeds with rice cereal! Wow! He choked all night and was screaming and it was awful. Thankfully I got a hold of David yesterday morning while my husband was holding my screaming baby! I ordered Buffer Babies to start and I am going to use the Prevacid OTC 24 hour capsuls. Cole has been on the Prevacid solutabs since 4 weeks old. My ped in on board to do this which I am very thankful for! I need to try something. How long does Neocate start to work? If Cole does not start to do better they want to put him on a feeding tube!!! I am at a loss and told my husband that I have never been this stressed, sad and have sooo much anxiety! Sometimes I find myself not wanting to hold Cole because I know it doesn't calm him! Yes please send me your number, I will call just to talk to someone who has been through this awful time! I sent my check to Reflux Solutions yesterday with over night delivery! I should get it early next week and I am praying this helps!!! I don't know what I will do if it doesn't. Have you ever heard of a baby choking on NEOCATE?? He did not choke on Nutramigen but after 9 days found mucus/blood in stool. Of course my milk dried up yesterday because I was not on top of pumping (did I have the time??).

have never been this stressed, sad and have sooo much anxiety .... same with me!!!!!!!!! and adeline is 29 months. tried the caracream again this morning. she gagged and spit the first part out and gave it to her again. karen, thank you for the info on pears. think next dose will give her alittle bit of the pears first and then the syringe. just think it will really mess things up if i put it in her bottle. each ounce counts and can't afford for her to rebell against her bottle. please say your prayers that this works! she has been pretty tolerant with almost everything, but this is a tough one for her. think i will start the neocate on monday or tuesday. didn't want to over load with two changes at one time. saw my pediatrican this morning and he didn't seem to have a problem with it. going to run it by my gi too next wednesday. used 21 capsules, of the 20mg and she is supposed to get 3.4ml 3 times per day. 10.2mg total. meredithy's mom, we used simply thick. did not have good luck with thickening with rice cereal. made it worse. simply think nectar was a lifesaver. did give adeline some gas though.

Ahh.. I am sorry she is having another hard transition. First two days I have it to Ryan I had to hold him, tip him back and squirt it in. Sounds mean.. I know.. but we were creaping dangerously close to a feeding tube so I did what I had to do. After two days, it wasnt a fight at all. Like I said, he loved it after that. He figured out real quick that it made him feel better and it became his friend. He loves it. Try to force the issue for a week and if you just cant get anywhere give David a call back. Their Caracream Max is calcium based vs sodioum bicarbonate (baking soda) based so I doubt it would have the same flavor. I dont know that for sure though.

I am with you, dont put it in the bottle. Better to do it like a shot and get it over with. Will she eat Yo Baby Yogurt. That would be a good chaser too.

What I love most about the Buffer Babies is that I don't have to time it around food. My son doesn't eat any solids...lives on Elecare. He refuses the dropper of Buffer Babies. So - I just mix it up and put it in his bottle and he's none the wiser. If your little ones are rejecting it, try adding it directly to what they are eating (I guess not fruit LOL) It works for us and really cuts out the stress of getting the meds down. Again -at first - Stanton could taste the buffer babies in his Elecare and rejected it...so I started with 1/4 dose in every bottle until I built up to the real way to administer it. It was a slow slow process - but paid off for us.
