Blueleopard (and others) - Neocate CoverageBlueleopard,
Would you mind sharing with me how you got your Neocate covered by WIC? I'm not sure if things are different where you're at (California?) but we're in Texas and I am under the impression WIC is income-based and we're overqualified?
Even with the Tx legislation our insurance company is denying our claims. We will appeal and appeal but in the meantime can't afford to buy the Neocate out of pocket for long. We'll probably end up taking out a loan from our parents...
Just wondering what your experience is.

|You have to fall within the guilde lines first. You can get in WIC if the child qualifies for Medicaid though, I believe. It's a package deal. |
As long as you qualify for WIC all you should have to do is have your GI fax the form from the WIC office back to them filled up with the letter of medical necessity. That should do it.
We got Alimentum covered and then the next step toddler formula called Peptamen Jr covered as well. Both very expensive.
When you use formula for a toddler though, they will limit what your food package is. We got a very limited food package when Jedd was getting his Peptamen Jr formula, but that was OK with us as it was about a house payment a month for it. It was $195 for 24 eight ounce cans. We were going through 5-6 cans per day!!!!

Pictured: G'mom w/3 kids. I'm mom to 1 angel Melissa (dec'd 11/92 - hypoplastic left-heart syn.)
2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
|We did qualify last year based on income. I believe the income level here in Jersey is about $44,000. We fluctuate year to year. And, since our son is almost 5 (March), he will not be eligible after that. I'm pretty sure most insurance companies cover through 12 mths. of age with a doctor's letter, but not after that. You really have to go over the language in your plan. Did you call Neocate directly to see if they have any ideas or even your local Child Health people? I have to admit, formula coverage is one of my major peeves in life. For lots of children this is their survivial - why should this formula be denied? It's not as if we can take them to McD's (or ANYWHERE) to eat.
