culturelle probiotic causing gas, getting up every hour
We tried culturelle probiotic (kids dairy free formulation) yesterday because Kavya's appetite is really horrible with the prevacid. She was having so much gas all of yesterday and the entire night and was waking up every hour and sometimes even every 1/2 hour :-( I think she was also a little bloated. Did your child experience this kind of thing when you tried a probiotic? Does it take a few days for the body to get adjusted to this? I gave her Mylicon before bed but didn't help much.

the worst is over in a few days but it can take up to 2 weeks to see full effect of probiotics.

We're using Culturelle too. Kylie has been pretty gassy lately but I'm not sure if it's from the probiotic or the Buffer Babies or the new formula or any of the other new meds she's on. :( For her it's not as bad as what you've described is going on with Kavya.

I think the inulin in culturelle might be causing problems...I need to do some more research on this.

ALL probiotics will cause gas. it is bacteria that digests food that is indigestible in our GI systems, part of the bacteria's "waste" is gas. While the probiotics are doing their job and colonizing it is crowding out the bad bacteria and eating up waste they will cause gas.

it will probably be about 2 weeks for everything to settle down and you *should* see better digestion, better bowel movements and hopefully decreased reflux.

but to be honest we NEVER had any luck with culturelle. we found Florastor and biogaia drops worked well for a time. also be aware that you might need to rotate probiotics and the best type of probiotics are the ones that come in liquid refrigerated form.
