Vigilantmom, DCD, others - Buffer Babies mixing question
I should be getting the BB on Friday or Saturday. In the meantime I had a question. For those of you dosing slightly lower than what Marci-kids suggests: I believe the solution B where you mix the meds can only be stable for 28 days and so if you are giving less of the meds than what they recommend does some of the B solution along with the meds get wasted since I assume you will have some left over after the 28 days? Maybe it will be more clear to me once I have the BB and instructions but just wanted to ask you ladies before that. 30 mg of prevacid really kills Kavya's appetite and makes her very irritable as well but that is what they suggest...I want to give her something like 20mg or so.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Hi! Ryan was on 30 mg a day UNTIL I put him on BB, or in his case, Caracream (samething but different medicine bottle design). It was so effective that I was able to drop his dose down 15mg almost immediately. It was because all the meds were finally getting in his system vs most of it being destroyed before it could do any good. 15 worked great for him. I think you will be totally fine dropping her down to 20. Then you can bring her down one ml at a time to where you feel comfortable. You are her mom, you will know. As far as waste, mine never made a full 28 day supply. It is more like 2 weeks. Now that said, the BB bottle design might be a little different. Hopefully Cody's mom will chime in. She is using the BB. I dont recall how many days worth she makes. I will ping her on FB and ask her to check in.

Thanks, Karen. Hope Cody's mom and Dcd will also chime in since she has recently used BB and I think also was giving a slightly lower dose. Karen, were you giving Ryan the BB/Caracream twice or three times a day? Kavya mainly needs the meds at night so would it be ok to do morn and then double dose at night instead of 3 times....I guess I will have to experiment a little?

I always did twice a day. When he first got up and before bed. I didnt want the daycare to have to mess with it. It worked well for him. Yes, experiment. It wont take long to figure out what will work best for her.

Actually we ran out of BB before the 28 days was up too, even though we we've been dosing lower than their recommended 27 mg/day for the vast majority of the time.

We're now on our second batch of BB. I think what they mean is that each BB suspension is STABLE for 28 days...not necessarily that each batch equates to a 28 day supply. Know what I mean?

Kylie also had/has most of her problems at night, and on top of that, like Vigilantmom, I didn't want the daycare to have to mess with the BB. I tried giving K the double dose at night, single dose in the morning. Tried splitting it up evenly over the two doses and even tried giving it all to her in one dose at night. I think however you do it is fine, you'll just have to experiement. (In fact, that's what my GI told me.) Of course, for Kylie it never helped much but we now know that's probably b/c her problems are more allergy-related.

I will be crossing my fingers for you this weekend!

Hi! Kody is on bb and takes an equivalent of 30 mg a day. When we make up the solution it only lasts us about 2 weeks because he's on a high dose. We've tested it all ways which is the great thing about bb. Kody has to be on the 30 mg or he's not doing well. I think we started with 15 or 20 for the first month. We finally realized that he needed higher. We only give it twice a day too, once in am and pm. If you have any questions about it just email me:JRansburg@att.net I haven't been on here for a while but need to start checking in. Good luck! I hope it works for you! Jen

Thanks, ladies! Karen, you mentioned you give one dose of BB before bed (is that after dinner or just before bed - can you give it without food?).

Also, David Stock of Marci-kids said that I have to give a minimum of 3ml of BB (which will be 9mg of prevacid) at one time. He said BB is not effective at a liquid volume lower than 3mL. So, if I want to give this twice a day, I would have to give a min of 3ml (9mg) in the morn and again 3ml (9mg) at night, so a total of 18mg prevacid per day.

You can give the buffer babies without food or even with. That's what is awesome about it. I totally forgot about the whole 3ml thing. You can try the 18mg and see how it goes. Kody didn't do well on prevacid until it was in the buffer babies so maybe she'll do better on it then you realize. Also they have the zeigrid caracream if your doc would be willing to prescribe that. Just a suggestion if the prevacid bb isn't settling for her. I know how it is with the trial and error thing. It totally sucks. Kody has a mpi and it took a while to figure that out but even without milk he was still having reflux problems. He's much better now but still has to be on the high dose of prevacid. Good luck!

Caracream and now the Caracream Z that I use now is a 2 to 1 ratio. BB is a 3 to 1 so I did 7.5 morning and night. I started giving it with dinner but as he got better I moved it to bedtime before his had his bedtime milk while watching Curious George. I moved it away from dinner because I thought it might help him have a bigger appetite. I dont know if it worked or not. He is just a busy kid. No tolerance to waste time with eating. Better things to do I guess.

She was so congested all night when on prilosec and it wasn't helping her at all and so zegrid won't be an option for us. Just hoping this BB+prevacid is going to work. Last night was again awful...waking up like 7 times.
