Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
so we think Z's reflux is largely under control...he'll be on the Prevacid a while (we tried a wean..wasn't time yet), but I'm not hearing the swallowing and he's largely happy and not puking. We're working really hard to get him off the Pediasure/ elecare mix he is on and ditch the bottle. The more he can eat normal food, the less I supplement. he gets 4 oz in teh morning...I'll tackle the morning last...he's tired and lazy and I am on a strict schedule... Anyway, we started with bottle there...he's on his own (kinda)...he was eating greek yogurt for a while and packed on a was great. We would send one yogurt and one fruit or veggie puree...often he ate was a nice relaxing time...then they moved him into the 3 yr old group and he lost his teacher he'd had since 3 mo old! She had a way with him. The new teachers understand his issue, but he's so charming and manipulative that he gets away with a lot foodwise! He quit all purees..just flat out refused, so I started sending raviolis, mac n cheese, crackers, pepperoni, etc...and a juice box...he doesnt' eaet a lot, but he eats a little of everything. Then dinner and we sit down for a "normal" meal...I make him half what I KNOW he can eat and half what we are eating...litterally a tblsp of each...he's doing generally well...he's getting that he has to sit there with us...but here's what's annoying...he's learned young that if he throws up or threatens to that he gets out of eating (I always refed him, but at daycare they didn't)...he doens't puke much anymore, BUT he'll say his tummy hurts. The minute he's taken his three bites he'll start complaining...I don't think I beleive him, but you never know with these kids...If I let him up from the table he's usually off and running. I try to press for more bites...but there's a LOT of improvement. I may even get him to take a bite of his bday cake this year...I'll die with excitement! Anyway, aside from the "my tummy hurts" thing he's eating a variety of different things and I am really proud of him...small steps right?? Here's to age three being the magic age of potty training and normal eating...and a couple inches in height would be nice!

Yipppeeee for progress....every little bit! And what a great picture -- no baby there anymore, pure kid :) I hear you about never being sure if the tummy aches, etc are for real, or the discovery of a new tool in getting things to work out the way they want. I generally err on the side of caution and trust, but I definitely wonder sometimes...

Yes, hooray for progress! It's great that the puking days are behind you. And your kid is too cute. Love this picture!

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Amazing how smart and quick these little ones are. They know how to work it. Stay strong and tell those teachers to stick to their guns. Happy 3rd Birthday!!! I think you should get a wish or two out of those candles. : )
