Anyone experience rash with prevacid?
My DD is having a rash on her face. We started prevacid capsule 3 days ago. We haven't given any new food so I am suspecting it is because of the prevacid. Anyway, I will give it a few more days and see how it goes.

Kathryn, Pager Volunteer and mommy to Emily Mia 02/04/07. 3 years old with GERD. 30mg Prevacid and Pepcid AC. Mylanta needed for flares. Failed prilosec med switch. Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
you know this is very interesting to me, emily has had a face and butt rash for what seems like forever!!! we have done food eliminations, allergy testing changed to free and clear hypoallergenic soaps everything....!!!! finally we found giving her allergy medicine (kids zyrtec) has stopped it.

but we recently stopped prevacid -again- (back to pepcid complete) and concurrently ran out of zyrtec and there has been no sign of rash!! i never put two and two together but i wonder too, if it might be the prevacid???? allergy meds might be worth asking your dr about since it greatly decreased emily's rashes and helped make her more comfortable.

I don't know if there is a correlation...but we switched K from the Prevacid solutabs to the capsules, and increased her dosage from 15 mg to 27 mg/day. I am just now realizing that around the same time, she developed this terrible rash under her right eye that has subsequently spread to an area on her chin and around her nose. Then, over the weekend, she developed a diaper rash - including one particularly painful-looking sore spot - which has yet to clear.

She has never had diaper rash in her life until now. We are treating it using Desitin and Lansinoh.

The facial rash is more troubling to me every day that it doesn't go away, but it doesn't seem to bother her. The gel the doctor gave me to put on it did nothing.

I never considered that it could be the Prevacid. What does your daughter's facial rash look like? Kylie's is a red area with little raised bumps, right under her eye. Where it's spread is just a red-dotted reaction that looks like a typical rash. The diaper rash also looks like a typical rash except that there is this one really raw-looking patch.

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
Rashes/hives are listed in the less than 1% catagory under their side effects so maybe there is a viral rash going around?? We reflux mom's tend the blame the whoas of the world on Reflux. : ) On the other hand, if I were seeing the correlation I dont know if I would take the chance when there are other options out there such as Nexium and Priolosec. Have any of you shot a note to Jeff or David at Reflux the Reflux Solutions lab?

One other thought would be to all probiotics to the mix. The PPI might be killing off the good bugs and letting the bad one run a muck.

Kavya's rash cleared up and we are still on Prevacid! So, I guess it must be from something else. Dcd, the rash was red with just one raised bump under her eye and near her chin just red with no bumps.

Knock on wood, Kylie's rash APPEARS to be clearing up as of this morning. It looks better for the first time since Aug. 2nd. Her diaper rash is gone too except for the one spot, but that area is also looking much better. If she continues to improve, I will attribute it to the Nutramigen we've now been on for a week and 2 days. Others have said they started seeing improvements after about a week. Fingers crossed.

I'm glad Kavya's rash went away!
