Nutramigen vs. Alimentum?
Those of you whose babies are on OTC hypoallergenic formula - what's the difference between Enfamil's Nutramigen and Similac's Alimentum?

All I can find is that the ready-to-feed versions (of both) do not contain corn syrup solids and the powder versions do. Other than that, some people think the Nutramigen tastes/smells better and others think the Alimentum tastes/smells better. I did read in one place that Nutramigen has 24% whole proteins vs. Alimentum's 17% whole proteins -but I'm not sure if that's right and if it is, I'm confused, because I thought they were both completely hydrolyzed formulas?

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the two, or recommend one over the other?

I think they are very similar. I chose to use Nutramigen over Alimentum because I think the Alimentum had a lot more sucrose (sugar). I use the powder. K drank the nutramigen readily (started at 4 months) and actually loves it even now at 19 months! I almost puked after tasting it (yes, it does taste horrid) but I guess babies at a young age don't mind it. For us it made a huge difference. Before the nutramigen, she would scream every time we put her in a car seat or swing, would wake up every 1/2 hour, etc. Her sleep is still very poor but we noticed an improvement in many ways once we switched to Nutramigen. Also, she was already on Enfamil Gentlease and so I thought I would just stick with another Enfamil product and so went with Nutramigen because there are some common ingredients. Anyway, I guess go with whatever she drinks!

My son Levi is 13 weeks old. We figured out he has reflux @ 2 weeks. We have tried 4 different formuls (Currently Neocate) and he is taking Pepcid, Prevacid, Mylanta, Grip Water
im using the similac alimentum and i can tell you it smells live VOMIT! Also if i dont wash my bottles immediatly after use they like absorb the smell. (yuck) Im using the ready to feed because it thicker than the powder. i have 5 dollar off coupons for the similac alimentum if you would like me to send them to you. I have wic and cant use them. But you can use the $5 off coupon on a 32 oz bottle of ready to feed (which normally costs like 9 dollars) so then you only are paying 4 dollars a bottle

Thanks so much for the offer! We're actually on the Nutramigen for now and seem to be seeing some improvements. She refused the Alimentum! Maybe someone else on here would be able to use your Similac coupons? Thanks again!
