At a crossroad here.
I have a 3 1/2 mos old baby that has acid reflux really bad. The meds. her doctor put her on causes blistering diarreah. Also, I am giving her Similac sensitive Soy formula. She throws up all of her feedings. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a different kind of formula that is more easier on her tummy? I have 6 other children and this is the 1st time I have ever had this problem. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you much! Angela

have you considered she might be allergic or intolerant to soy or milk? You might want to consider asking the Dr. if he could switch the baby to a hypoallergenic formula like nutramigen or a amino acid based formula like neocate. it can take up to 2 weeks for you to see improvement because it takes about that long for the soy proteins to get out of her system. Sometimes babies and mommies find relief much faster. you might also want to ask if it is necessary to see a GI.

diarrhea is sometimes a side effect of meds too, but if you are certain the meds are causing diarrhea then ask about switching to a different kind of medication.

I hope things get better for your little sweetie and she finds relief soon!

adelines mom
our daughter was in the progressive care nursery at the hospital for her first 10 days. choked on breast milk and had horrible reflux. they started her on enfamil added rice. she developed blood in her stools and HORRIBLE diarrhea and HORRIBLE blisters on her bottom. changed to alimentum and things got a lot better. she was definately allergic to the formula/could not tolerate it at all. a friend told me about dabbing mylanta on a cotton ball to the blistered areas and sprinkling with corn starch powder. really helped her!

Neocate worked for us, when nothing else did. Nutramigen wasn't hypoallergenic enough!!
