Mason Matthew born at 28 weeks on 12/10/2007 with MSPI and severe reflux. Still on Neocate, strict MSPI diet, recently weaned off of Prevacid.
Evalise Adelle came along 4 weeks early on 12/2/2009 we thought we could be without this reflux stuff but no such luck. She's MSPI as well, off of breastmilk :-( and on Neocate for MSPI, has eczema (better with Neocate), and worse reflux than her brother did! Doing Buffer babies and Prevacid-
7 month old won't take bottle?
Hi All, Hoping someone can share some insight here. My GERD/MSPI daughter will be 7 months later this week. She is a chunk, above the 97th percentile height/weight. I feel like Prevacid/Buffer Babies has really helped her and that she isn't bothered so much by reflux any longer (I certainly may be wrong). She is on an aggressive prevacid dose through Marci kids and Reflux Solutions. She has been on Neocate infant formula since 7 weeks and took it fine until about a month and a half ago--things have been getting progressively worse. She started on Neocate Nutra at 4.75 months and has done very well with that--she likes it. She started by being distracted and fussy at the bottle about a month and a half ago. Then I was the only one who could feed her, then only with the lights dimmed, fan on, and with her blankie, then that became a struggle and now I feel like I have no tricks. Her pedi was not helpful and said to get her to take 18-20oz min a day. I am usually not making that anymore, just under that. She bucks herself as if to try to get off of my lap, she does NOT cry or fuss, she pushes/pulls the bottle and hits at it. She kicks her legs, plays with her feet, spits the nipple out, waves her arms around, and spits the milk out. This goes on for as long as I can tolerate and now she drinks/spits about 4 oz at a time. I CAN'T DO THIS ANYMORE. She has another appt with pedi this afternoon, she sees pedi GI in 3 weeks, and a pedi allergist (more eczema with different solids) in 2 weeks. --could she just now hate the taste of Neocate? I've tried: warm/cold formula, different flow nipples, different bottles, different sippy cups/straw cups/regular cups that she'll take water from but NOT milk, I've tried tylenol/oragel, loud rooms, quiet rooms, feeding in motion, and dream feeding (which is not for us) with no luck. Any thoughts on what's going on? Yesterday and today she's not taking her Nutra well, the only other solids she likes and has tolerated so far are pears. She's currently refusing squash. I know it's hard to take it too seriously given she has been gaining so well but I am out of my mind, she's too young and has too few solids to choose from to give up drinking milk!! I'd love to video what a feed looks like but I don't have a camera and I don't think any of her docs would watch it anyway:-( TIA, Jodi

Sara, Mom to Isobel 10/01/08 Dx Silent reflux @ 6 wks. Prevacid 22.5mg split in 2 doses. Pepcid .5ml twice a day. Diagnostically confirmed milk protein, egg and cat allergy. Suspected corn, pea and squash allergy. Trialed Alimentum and Elecare without success, currently on Isomil Advance RTF with moderate success. Barium Swallow and UGI 3/08 Pondering a ph probe and endoscopy.
My only thought relates to my dd's reaction to prevacid. We did great for months and then it seemed not to work anymore so we upped to the marci kids dose and stayed there for a month. At the higher dose my daughter was a nightmare to deal with. Behavioral crap all over the place. Seriously irritable. Might it be a behavior issue rather than a 'health' issue (so to speak)? We ended up switching back to pepcid and the behavioral stuff/ irritability stopped almost immediately. We also had trouble getting 20 oz a day into her until we got her back on pepcid- but that's probably a coincidence of timing. Wish I could be more help.

FYI--pedi was no help yesterday. Said 12oz a day is fine if I can do that (3 weeks ago she said 18-20??). She is the 2nd pedi since we've moved here 6 months ago that is terrible--not sure what I'll do. Does Elecare, Ailementum, etc taste as bad? I know Nutramagen is awful....

Jessica, Mommy to Jedd, severe reflux, severe food and oral aversions, Finally G tube free!!! VSD repair 4-24-07 (open heart surgery), hypospadias, repaired 3 times and Ear tubes Visit Jedd at his CB site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/jedd
Alimentum tastes like puke, yes I tasted it, it tastes just as bad as it smells. It's awful but was a great help for my son even though it was going through his feeding tube.

I wonder if a weight gain has cause the med dose to be too low? Can you call and ask to see if it can be adjusted? Are GI was more than willing to adjust the dose every time we went for a check up which was about every 3/4 months.

Check with your
doctor first!
