Brigitte, mother of two girls diagnosed with reflux from birth. Ashley now 6 yrs was a silent refluxer and would choke many times a day. Outgrew at age 2. Recently started complaining about reflux. Yougest daughter has milk protein allergy. Still on Neocate and Prevacid at 2.5 years. Aspirates occasionaly.
Still on Neocate! We are trying to wean my daughter from Neocate and have failed miserable every time. We are being told that it's not an allergy problem but more reflux. However, we tried rice milk and more recently oat milk (2 onces in her 6 onces bottle). She was so sick with oat milk that we didn't sleep for a full 6 days. She was awake all night, sitting and crying in her bed. Within 48 hours of being back on Neocate, she started sleeping again. Any thoughts on why she is doing so well on Neocate and can't be moved to another type of milk? I just can't narrow it down. She saw an allergist last year and tested negative. Since she started getting skin rashes about 6 months ago, we have another appointment scheduled for June 18th.

Also mom to Nathan. born Jan.20th, 2009, MPI . so far dx with reflux and has an extremely sensitibe GI system. Also dx with primary immune deficiency disease.
|Even though tests are all neg. the resuts speak for themselves really. My daughter had a miserable time up until about 4 months ago ( she's 3 and a half), just started her on dairy and she still has those days.|
I don't have all the info of course, but it seems that it just takes the body time to adjust or accept something new. Is she gaining weight ?

2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
|Has she ever been evaluated for an eosinophilic disorder? The only way to tell is with an endoscope/biopsies after being on a reflux med. (like Prevacid for 6 - 8 weeks). It's also tricky because the child needs to be eating the problem food/foods in order to show elevated numbers of eos. (a type of white blood cell) in the GI tract. Often confused with severe reflux or food allergy, eosinophilic disorders occur when these white blood cells mistakenly attack an area of the GI tract (in our son's case it's his esophagus) in response to a certain food/or foods. You cannot tell which food/foods are the culprit with standard food allergy testing, because it is a DIFFERENT type of food allergy and won't be picked up by those tests. Our son can only drink Neocate (although we are trialing apples and sweet potatoes right now). He will have to have another scope soon to see if the eos. cells have returned. With other foods, we can tell right away because of symptoms such as pain, increased reflux, or not sleeping. Sorry if you already know about this disorder, but some have never heard of it.
