Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
brigitteHey -- sorry, I didn't see your response to my aspiration post until yesterday. We discovered Lorenzo's apnea because we had been concerned for a long time about some signs of cyonosis and, eventually, because I observed a couple of episodes of apnea while he was sleeping next to me. (He choked at night on a regular basis, but these were episodes in which there was no evidence of distress, just failure to breath). It took another several months, and a major aspiration episode to get a referral to a Pulmonologist, who referred him for a sleep study.
I had no idea at that time, nor were we ever told prior to his diagnosis, that reflux related sleep apnea is not terribly uncommon, and that it can present as both Obstructive Apnea, Central Apnea, or both. Do you have concerns about your little one and apnea?
