Hi, I read your post about trying chiropractic/homeopath for your kiddo and was interested to see how it was going. Please post any updates!

Lorenzo b.4/25/07 1 week in NICU w/ aspirate pneumonia from a reflux episode; diagnosed GERD at 9weeks; Used Zantac for 5months. Currently using Chinese Medicine and Craniosacral Therapy. GERD, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Sensory Processing Disorder. Ask me about breastfeeding a refluxer! Pic: day 5 in the NICU.
Jumping in here.....we have used Homeopathy, Chinese Medicine and Cranio-sacral therapy and have had a few truly miraculous results, including being able to wean from all anti-acid meds (though DS still has reflux -- it just isn't dangerously or painfully acidic) and DS finally being able to eat solids after two years of being virtually incapable. Finding a good practitioner, and one whom you feel comfortable with is the toughest part, in my experience (and I live in a place where there are probably more alternative medical practitioners per capita than anywhere else in the US...

Thanks for your response Lorenzo's mommy. We have been doing cranio-sacral for about two months and I really haven't seen much improvment. An attempt to take him off Prevacid was disasterous! Can you give me some details about your homeopath and Chinese herbalist? Did you find one worked better than the other? When did you start? Max is 9 mos. now and I am interested in trying something in addition to the cranio work. Not sure how to go about finding someone either.

Our best success was with Chinese Medicine. I attribute that to eliminating the need for prescription meds for acid, as well as for getting him to finally eat solids at the age of 2 and resolving some immune system issues he had. We started off at about 5 months with a practitioner who is well known in our community for her work with pregnant women (she is also a midwife), mostly because she is a family friend. I believe the treatments and herbs she provided were responsible for allowing us to wean DS off meds successfully. Eventually we felt we needed to find someone who was more specialized in the care of children, and we tried someone who just wasn't a good fit -- and finally heard through our cranio-sacral practitioner of someone who specializes in pediatrics. She has been our miracle worker. She has yet to use needles with him -- it's all acupressure, massage and other bodywork and herbs. He loves the treatments, and he loves the herbs, and we've been doing it long enough that he now asks for herbal remedies by name and I trust that he needs them when he asks (although there are also times when I determine that he needs them even if he hasn't mentioned it). I would start by asking your cranio-sacral practitioner for recommendations of anyone they know who is good with kids, and go from there. Trust your instincts when it comes to a good fit -- you should feel comfortable with them, so should your child, and there should be lots of encouragement for you to participate and learn the techniques.
