Mason Matthew born at 28 weeks on 12/10/2007 with MSPI and severe reflux. Still on Neocate, strict MSPI diet, recently weaned off of Prevacid.
Evalise Adelle came along 4 weeks early on 12/2/2009 we thought we could be without this reflux stuff but no such luck. She's MSPI as well, off of breastmilk :-( and on Neocate for MSPI, has eczema (better with Neocate), and worse reflux than her brother did! Doing Buffer babies and Prevacid-
Blueleopard and others-EE and testing
Hi, I see on another posting that Blueleopard, your little one tested negative to RAST and scratch testing but positive to scratch testing. I have a 2 year old that we've been waiting forever to get in with the allergist and have an appointment in May finally. I want to go with all of the information possible to get him the testing he needs to finally figure this out. How old was he for the testing and what were his symptoms. I have to wonder about EE for my DS....he's MSPI for sure, still on Neocate (One+), a very restricted diet and Prevacid but his reflux has taken a turn for the worse and he still has an ongoing skin rash?- TIA, Jodi

I have an appointment Thursday about this very same issue for my 21 month old! I'd love an answer too. Don't want to forget asking something. My LO is on Elecare +1 only. Thanks

I am by no means an expert on EE but I do know you can find it by doing an EDG and testing the biopsies on slides.

FWIW as well, you can test negative on the biopsies if the child is already on a restricted diet. It could be that NO EOS will be present if the child isn't eating the foods that will triggar that. Does that makes sense?

Alot of time, they want the child to eat as normal of a diet prior to the EDG in order to get a baseline. Then they will back off to Elecare (most use that) and then rescope until they get a clear/acceptable EOS count and then add one food at a time and rescope each time to see the EOS count again.

Dx with silent reflux at 8 months
FPIES, DGE, MSPI. Recently diagnosed with EC (Eosin. colitis and now Primary immune deficiency disease.
Also mom to Nathan. born Jan.20th, 2009, MPI . so far dx with reflux and has an extremely sensitibe GI system. Also dx with primary immune deficiency disease.
My DD tested neg. for all allergy testing at 18 months, but when we did scope with biopsies, she was pos. for Eosinophilic colitis. So I know allergy testing can be very inaccurate. I hope you get answers HUGS.

2 healthy daughters (knock wood) Cory (16), Kim (11) & Eric (4) diagnosed with e.e. (scoped 8/08), GERD & severe food/seasonal allergies, asthma. Cried non-stop first 17 mths. of life Found out he is allergic to cow's milk, soy, eggs, and peanuts. Takes Prevacid, Neocate One Plus & Flovent.
Jedsmommy was right. The only way to tell is with a scope w/biopsies. But, it can be tricky, because you can have a false negative if child's diet doesn't include the trigger foods at the time. Keep in mind too, that my son only had 3 eos. (normal) at the time of his very first scope (around 11 mths. of age). Not sure if it kicked in later, or what because he was eating some things, and now we can't find any safe foods. He tested positive to rice, peaches, potato, and corn with patch testing. He tested negative to these foods with scratch/RAST testing. But, patch testing looks for delayed allergies. Good Luck - let us know what you find out. El

Forgot to say, skin rash can be a big red flag. Eric had horrible eczema on his face until we took him off soy formula. Then it cleared up beautifully.
