How long after lunch can they take a nap?
I need some advice my 3 1/2 year old has been having more frequent refluxing episodes. How long do you wait after they eat to put them down for a nap? My son's GI said to wait 2-3 hours after dinner (which is going to be tough!) Is it the same for naps? He has had problems at night lately because he had croup and had break through reflux so they had to increase his prilosec. Also a couple days ago she added Mylanta 4 times a day. Should this be before or after meals or does it matter? The bottle says between meals and at bedtime.

Mom to Matthew, 01/16/08, GERD baby, has been on Zantac since 2 mos. Aidan, his twin brother, no GERD. Max-ed out on Zantac at 1ml-3 times/day, and switched to Prevacid 15mg split tab 08/20/08. Switched again to 20mg Prilosec 09/18/08 due to Prevacid's restlessness/headache side effects. Reflux was out of control again and had to switch to 10mg Nexium 02/11/09. Good result so far.
I usually wait 1hr after lunch and 2-3 hrs after dinner to put my son down for nap/bed. Croup was aggravating my son's reflux too and he was throwing up a lot more. Thanks God, the croup coughing last about 3 nights and then got better. It's best to check with the pharmacist or doctor but from what I remember Mylanta needs to be given at least 2 hrs before or after another PPI dosage like Prilosec.
Check with your
doctor first!
