zack's mom
Just read that Zack is still taking a bottle at 28 months. We are still chugging along at 20 1/2 months with five bottles a day and pureed foods three times a day. Nestle just discontinued the Nourish Plus in the purple can. I have bought up what I can find at CVS. Going to have to try something new soon. I looked at Pediacare. $$$ and it is vanilla flavored. Also looked at Nestle's newer formulas for older children. Would love to hear what you feed Zack in a day. We have been working with a Dr. Brown's sippy cup some afternoons. Putting pureed organic pears and organic pear juice in it. She is doing pretty well with that. The feed specialist said to maybe put some forumla in it. I have read to put water, juice or milk in the sippy, but stay away from putting their formula in it. What are your thoughts? Thanks! Lindy

Zack born 09/28/07 @ 31 weeks. Dx silent reflux @ 6 mo. Now not so silent. Switched to Elecare @ 9 mo. On Prevacid 15mg 1x daily. Looking to stop the puke and gain some lbs.
Puke stopped about 24 months and he's learning to eat...very slowly.
Still on prevacid and periactin.
My son is a strange bird...he can eat..he just chooses not to...anything remotely solid he spits out. He is currently getting about 12 oz of Pediasure mixed with a couple scoops of Elecare Vanilla as well as about 6-8 oz of puree (which he will NOT take from me..only eats it at daycare...peer pressure I guess). I fortify EVERYTHING. He occasionally drinks juice from his juice box...he can drink out of an open cup and we have ONE sippy we found that he will use. I do not put formula in it because he wouldn't touch it. He mainly only drinks water out of it. Other than that he eats Trader Joe's veggie chips (kind of potato chip, but shaped like a french fry)...that's about it. It took a LOBG time before my son could tolerate fortified formula and purees...he threw them up for a long time until I found the right balance for him. I'm lucky if I ever get 1000 cal into him per day. He's a little guy, but he has his own curve.... Lastly, I just bought a Born Free free flow sippy that is bottle -like, ubt is a sippy...I'm hoping he will transition to taking formula from it...he's NEVER held a bottle himself. He does self feed his purees at daycare.

this was so helpful to read. adeline will NOT hold her bottle either. she will play with it, turn it upside down, but will not feed herself with it. she will hold the handles on the sippy though and bring it up to her mouth about four or five times and drink and then starts to lose interest and then starts to drop it. have her sitting in the high chair. haven't really had good luck with water. still makes her reflux. she is great at picking up puffs, tiny banana and apple pieces and putting in her mouth. she will hold her spoon and put in mouth, but not really feeding herself though. the five bottles are usually 5 to 5 1/2 ounces of the good start. 24 cal. tell me what you mean about fortified formula. when did you switch to pediasure. the feeding specialist said there is a pediasure that will help with constipation too. when i saw that it was vanilla flavored, i wondered how that would taste five times a day. it is CRAZY! we are going to the hospital to night to do her sleep study. i am scared to death, but anxious to see what they are going to find. they had a cancellation. will post and let everyone know how it goes. we trialed Pediasure at about 18 mo and he refluxed on it badly (was showing an SPI for sure)...I waited a few months and tried again and he tolerates it now!. Fortified means I'm putting Duocal in the bottles for extra fat/ cal. I use Benecalorie in the purees. He just CANNOT get enough volume of anything to get enough cal.

We are on a high calorie prescription milk called vital jr. We started it back in November and my LO has continued to gain a pound a week! He takes it in a born free bottle. My feeding therapist also suggested putting it in our born free sippy cups but he won't touch it when I do, so, this week I realized thatthe born free bottles and sippy cups are thesame size at the top. So I tried giving him giving him the milk in the sippy cup with handles, but with a bottle nipple attached. This is working 80% of the time for us for now. He pikes and gags on any pureed foods. We are lucky to get him to take a bite of anything, but we have good list of "sometimes one bite" foods. It is frustrating, but so nice to know I'm not alone

Zack's mom, i am looking at the Dr. Brown's sippy that we have been using and it is a natural flow. the feeding specialist had me take the plastic stopper thing out of it to begin with so adeline wouldn't have to suck so hard. the juice really flows out, but she is doing pretty well with it. i put her in the high chair and move the side up to our big butcher's block so she can only drop the cup on one side. she holds it with both hands and sips maybe four or five times and then begins to play the drop game. ugh! i just found a born free sippy that i had in the cabinet. forgot i had purchased it a long tiem ago. going to try that one too. it has the handles on both sides.

we just got the Dr Brown sippy and ZACK USES IT...I haven't tried anything but water in it, but as the proud owner of a million different sippys, I was thrilled. This one isn't spill proof, but it's spill resistant...good enough for me!
