Gumilk
Has anyone tried this? and if so did it help and where were you able to get it? I know it has to come from France or Mexico as it is not available in the US. I have a two month old son with GERD (diagnosed with upper GI) and we have been thickening his Elecare (also has milk protein intolerance)bottle with oatmeal - it helps but causes some stomach/gas pain so I was hoping to try Gomilk, but have no idea where to order it.

Gumilk
It's Gumilk - the ped gi recommended it. He doesn't recommend the others due to lack of studies in children. Personally I think they would probably be fine, but thought I'd at least try and find a way to order Gumilk.

Sara, Mom to Isobel 10/01/08 Dx Silent reflux @ 6 wks. Prevacid 22.5mg split in 2 doses. Pepcid .5ml twice a day. Diagnostically confirmed milk protein, egg and cat allergy. Suspected corn, pea and squash allergy. Trialed Alimentum and Elecare without success, currently on Isomil Advance RTF with moderate success. Barium Swallow and UGI 3/08 Pondering a ph probe and endoscopy.
I have played around with Gumilk as our ped GI mentioned it as an option. My biggest issue is that you have to heat your formula to 160F to activate the thickener. That temperature destroys the nutrients in the formula or breastmilk. Plus, who wants to heat the bottle that hot and then wait forever holding a hungry, screaming baby while waiting for it to cool? If you call the folks at Simply Thick they are happy to provide you with information about which NICUs use it. I thought it was the way to go as you can add it to liquids at any temperature. HTH.

Plus, simply thick is xanthan gum - a food thickener that has been used in about everything for about forever.
