Mother of a reflux baby
Constipation/VigilantmomThis question is for vigilantmom. (I wasn't sure how to contact you other then the forum and your advise is soooo helpful for me). I noticed on your story they you gave your son mirlax for constipation. Did you give him this daily? My daughter has been having constipation (I believe it's due to the medication) which has led to anal fisures so her doctor is trying to keep her stool soft to avoid additional fisures and complications; however, the recommended giving her prune juice which isn't helping and seems to be causing terible gas and stomach pain. I was actually considering something like mirlax but I didn't want it to upset her stomach. Any advise would be helpful.

|miralax is a wonder drug! our gi put adeline on it about year ago and it made ALL the difference. she was straining so hard she would reflux up through her nose. we give it to her twice a day. 1/2 tsp. scoop and put it into her bottle. if i notice she starts getting a little backed up, i give alittle more. you just have to tweek it. we had VERY bad luck with prune juice. made the reflux worse! and i read somewhere to give karo syrup in her bottle, tried that and that made the reflux worse too. we often feed gerber pureed prunes with her oatmeal in the morning. have been feeding some solids since 7 months. she is now 19 months. i have noticed over the last few months since she has been getting a lot of teeth, that the constipation gets worse too.|

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
|Yeap... Miralax is the wonder drug that does wonders. I fought it for a long time, I dont really know why know. Ryan gets one dose a day. 1 1/2 teaspoons. I put it in his juice as they recommend that you put it in something other than milk to be most effective. It is so gentle on their systems and is so safe. You can play with the dose to see what works best for Haylee. Start with a tsp and adjust from there. If she is having anual fisures I would adjust your does till you get her to a very soft peanut butter consisency. It will take about 2 days to see the affect. I tend to adjust a little here and a little there depending on what he has eaten (bananas constipate him instantly so I will give him a full tablespoon, canalope makes him poopy so I only give 1/2 tsp. ) 1 to 1 1/2 tsps is a great place to start. No cramping no gas. Good luck and keep us in the loop. |
