Kayt 10, Aubrey 5, Justin 2 and Jacob 4 months-Tracheomalacia, reflux, apnea and aspiration on swallowing.
Food Aversion...questions....My 8 month old won't eat solid food, he hates baby food, won;t open his mouth and gags on almost everything and throws up half the time. The only thing I can get him to eat is apples, only fresh ones. I use my grinder and grind it up, then he will open his mouth for it. For everything else he gags and won't open his mouth at all after he finds out what it is. He loves his sippy cup.
He is on Prevacid (which I give to him half tab after I put a few drops of water on it and he mushes in his mouth with no problems) and has EER and Dysphagia.
Does this sound like food aversion or just a picky eater?
What does food aversion look like?

Ryan was born May 20th 2008. 9 lbs 2 oz. Ryan’s magic bullet was 30mg of Prevacid capsules mixed with Caracream from Marci-kids (I am forever indebted to the team at Marci-kids), Claratin for the mucos, and Mirlax for the constipation. Within 2 months of this combo he jumped from the 6% to the 50% for weight and continues to climb. Be strong, listen to your instincts. Read his story for more specifics that just might help you too - Karen
|Through all the ups and downs with Ryan the one thing that I kept repeating to myself was "Respect the No to solids". In other words dont push it and dont hurry. Give him what he will eat, offer new things often but if he turns his pushes it away, put it away and try again early. Our refluxers and touchy when it comes to food. If he will drink for you then you are good. At 8 months most of his nutritional needs can be met with his forumula. I know it is hard especially if you have had a child that had no eating issues. Hard to not think "Well Aubrey at ____ at 8 months. Been there.... If he will eat apples give him apples. Perhaps you can grind a pear and do 3 parts apple to one part pear and then one part of each and then 2 parts pear one part apple kind of then. Then try another food. Keep it fun, low stress and low hassle. He will get there. I had to feed Ryan while pulling him around in the wagon around the neighborhood... yeap.. honest truth. The whole neighborhood knew when it was dinner time. All is great now though and he figured out to eat before the snow flew.. thank god because we have been buried in it this year. : ) |
