Nexium Questions
I need some advice for those of you with Nexium experience. After a year on Prevacid solutabs, we are switching Mia to Nexium. For those using Nexium - do you use the Powder packets or the Capsules? How do you administer? How long before eating? Once or twice a day? Our GI Doc has never prescribed Nexium before, so he didn't have a lot of advice for me. Also, do you split the capusles in half? How?? Any advice would be great!

Mom to Matthew, 01/16/08, GERD baby, has been on Zantac since 2 mos. Aidan, his twin brother, no GERD. Max-ed out on Zantac at 1ml-3 times/day, and switched to Prevacid 15mg split tab 08/20/08. Switched again to 20mg Prilosec 09/18/08 due to Prevacid's restlessness/headache side effects. Reflux was out of control again and had to switch to 10mg Nexium 02/11/09. Good result so far.
We use powder packets and mix with 15ml of water about 30min before meal (I am not able to let him wait 1hr as instruction on the powder packet), once a day. I use spoon to give it to him. The pharmacist should be able to give you more detail instructions. My son loves the taste of the med and he is happy to take it everyday. It's been working wonderfully for us.

Tried and failed many med weans but GERD and pain are well controlled. Functional constipation. Reoccurring SBBO. Suspected IBD or autoimmune disease. Resolved issues: MSPI, CSID (acquired), Stage 2 kidney reflux, Chronic diarrhea.
Audrey Meadow 06/20/08. born 34/35 weeks. Still b/f and eats everything! ftt and chronic constipation.
i would say talk to the pharmacist or call different pharmacists until you get one nice enough to talk to you. i had to go to a few different ones until i found a pharmacist who knew the meds well enough and that had experience giving them to kids.

emily is now on 20mg (or 30 can't remember) nexium after being on prevacid since she was 10 months. we have not seen any change in reflux but hoping it controls the acid better then prevacid. she is able to swallow the purple capsules b/c they are tiny. i had tried to break them open and pour them on to yogurt for her but she would not eat them! she now refuses to eat yogurt and ice cream. our pharm. said do not split the dose give it all at once. i hope the nexium works better for mia!

Also mom to Nathan. born Jan.20th, 2009, MPI . so far dx with reflux and has an extremely sensitibe GI system. Also dx with primary immune deficiency disease.
We also did the powder, and bit work wonders for both my LO's. We diluted in 10mls and administered 10mg twice a day. I used a syringed and then a med cup. They also both loved the taste, so it was no problem. Good luck!
